Pet dies, man taken to hospital after Pocatello house fire

POCATELLO – One person was taken to Portneuf Medical Center after a large garage fire Monday night.

According to a news release, the Pocatello Fire Department responded to a house fire at 4904 Cherokee Street on Monday night at 11:25 pm.

When crews arrived, they found the garage was fully engulfed in flames. Firefighters were able to quickly knock down the fire, although the garage is a total loss, and the home sustained heavy smoke damage.

According to a reporter on scene, one cat died in the fire, and a man was transported for evaluation due to minor smoke inhalation. The home is reportedly considered unlivable, and the residents have been displaced.

According to the release, the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
