AMERICAN FALLS – Two people were hospitalized in a two-vehicle head-on collision Monday night.
It happened around 7:30 p.m. in Power County on ID State Highway 39 and Vollmer Loop, according to a news release from Idaho State Police.
A teenager behind the wheel of a 2014 Hyundai Sonata was headed south on Highway 39. While passing a slow-moving vehicle in the northbound lane, the driver — whose name was not specified — collided head-on with an oncoming 2000 Dodge Dakota. A 21-year-old man from Aberdeen was driving the Dakota.
ISP report neither driver was wearing a seatbelt. Both of them were injured, although the extent of their injuries is unclear. An ambulance crew took the Hyundai driver to the hospital. The other driver was taken in a personal vehicle.
The road was blocked for about two and a half hours while emergency responders were on scene.
ISP says it appreciates those who helped, including American Falls Police Department, Power County Sheriff’s Office, Power County EMS and Portneuf Air Rescue.
