IDAHO FALLS — The Idaho Transportation Department has closed multiple sections of Interstate 15 due to large dust storms.

All northbound and southbound lanes of I-15 are closed between Idaho Falls (Exit 119) and Roberts (Exit 145) due to winds and near-zero visibility, according to ITD.

The wind and dust have also forced the closure of all northbound and southbound lanes of the I-15 between New Sweden Road (Exit 113) to the Bingham Bonneville County line (mile marker 108), near Shelley.

Drivers are urged to seek alternate routes or avoid travel, if possible. ITD spokesman Sky Buffat told EastIdahoNews.com that U.S. Highway 91 is a good detour for the closure near Shelly.

It’s unclear when the highway will reopen.
