MARYSVILLE, Washington — Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Marysville, Washington, learned Sunday that a new temple will be built in their community.
The announcement from the church’s First Presidency was delivered by Hugo E. Martinez of the United States West Area Presidency during a devotional for local members.
“We are pleased to announce the construction of a temple in Marysville, Washington,” the First Presidency said in a statement. “The specific location and timing of the construction will be announced later. This is a reason for all of us to rejoice and express gratitude for such a significant blessing.”
The Marysville temple will be the seventh in Washington, joining existing temples in Columbia River, Moses Lake, Seattle, Spokane, Tacoma and Vancouver.
Church leaders say the addition reflects continued growth in the region. According to the church, there are now about 278,000 Latter-day Saints in Washington across more than 470 congregations.
The new temple announcement also brings the total number of temples worldwide, either operating, under construction or announced, to 384.
The church’s history in Washington dates back to the 1850s, with early members helping build railroads in the 1880s and later settling in larger numbers during major projects like the construction of the Grand Coulee Dam. The state’s first temple was completed in Seattle in 1980.
