Don’t click it! Another round of scam text messages making their way through Idaho
Published at | Updated at
BOISE — State officials are warning Idaho residents to stay alert as a new wave of scam text messages targets unsuspecting drivers by posing as government agencies.
The Idaho Transportation Department says the fraudulent messages often appear to come from courts, law enforcement, or the Department of Motor Vehicles. They may include official-looking case numbers, along with threats of arrest warrants, fines, or even asset seizure if immediate action is not taken.
According to ITD, the messages frequently contain links that do not lead to legitimate government websites, despite appearing credible at first glance.
Officials emphasized that ITD does not send unsolicited text messages demanding payment, threatening legal consequences, or directing customers to non-government web addresses. Any legitimate communication from the department will point users to a website ending in “.gov.”
Residents who receive suspicious messages are urged not to click on any links, provide personal information, or send money. Instead, they should report the message to their mobile carrier and delete it.
For accurate and secure information regarding driver’s licenses or vehicle registration, ITD advises visiting the official website at dmv.idaho.gov.
