Joanna May Shenton

Joanna May Housholder Shenton, 86, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, passed away on Sunday, May 3, 2026, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, with family by her side.

Joanne was born April 23, 1940, in Farmington, Iowa, to Stanley and Margaret Housholder. She was the oldest of three children. Growing up on a farm in Iowa is where she grew to love that way of life. She started school in Iowa in a one-room country school, and graduated from West Jefferson High School in Idaho in 1958.

In February of 1960, she married Dean Shenton. Later, they moved to Medicine Lodge where they enjoyed ranching until they retired. They raised three children: Connie Shenton Melton, Tod Shenton, and Susie Shenton Shifflett in Medicine Lodge, Idaho.

Joanne enjoyed crocheting, sewing, and gardening. She loved the ranching lifestyle, the smell of fresh cut alfalfa, and most of all, she loved her family. While she will be missed greatly, her love and memories will always be carried with us.

Joanne is survived by her sister, Jeannie Johnston; her son, Tod (Carolyn) Shenton; her daughter, Susie Shifflett; her grandsons, Travis Torres and Matthew Shenton; her granddaughters, Brett Shenton, Ivy Shifflett, Ellee (Clancy) Rogers; and great granddaughter, Hollis Torres.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, John Housholder; daughter, Connie Jean Melton; and Dean Shenton.

Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, May 8, 2026, at the Small Cemetery in Medicine Lodge, Idaho. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road.
