MLB Plans To Eliminate Home Plate Collisions
Published at(LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla.) — Home plate collisions in Major League Baseball is about to become a play of the past.
The league plans to eliminate the play due to health and player safety concerns, according to New York Mets general manager Sandy Alderson, who is the chairman of the rules committee.
The exact language to eliminate the play has not been determined, but Alderson expects the rule will be put up for a vote at the owners meeting in January. The players will need to approve the rule change for it to go into effect in 2014.
