BLACKFOOT — The coroner has identified a man who was found dead in a truck in the parking lot of Taco Bell in Blackfoot.

Bingham County Coroner Jimmy Roberts identified the deceased as 31-year-old Tyrel John Keppner.

“This incident remains under investigation, and we ask that everyone with ties to our community keep the family of Mr. Keppner and those involved in your thoughts and prayers,” says Roberts in a news release.

EastIdahoNews.com has reported on Keppner in the past regarding stalking allegations. Keppner was arrested on June 14 and again on the 15th, after he reportedly stalked a woman and her child at a baseball game.

The woman and child had an active civil protection order and a no-contact order against him.

On Wednesday, around 4:52 P.M., Blackfoot Police officers responded to a call regarding more allegations of stalking and a violation of a protection order.

Officers initiated a traffic stop on the alleged suspect vehicle that ended in the Taco Bell parking lot.

As officers approached the vehicle, it was discovered that the subject had sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The man was identified as Keppner.

No officers discharged their weapons during this incident. Officers immediately rendered first aid to Keppner, and he was transported via ambulance to Bingham Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The Blackfoot Police Department says it extends its condolences to the family and those affected by this incident.
