Man apprehended by sheriff K-9 after he allegedly threatened to shoot and kill multiple people

IDAHO FALLS – A man was arrested Saturday evening after he reportedly threatened to kill someone while pointing a gun at them.
Shawn Cochran, 36, was charged with felonies for aggravated assault and attempted burglary, as well as a misdemeanor for resisting arrest.
EastIdahoNews.com has reported on Cochran in the past. In June 2020, Cochran and two others were charged with reportedly threatening to kill a man if he did not agree to murder his own brother.
Cochran’s charges in that case, including felonies of second-degree kidnapping, aggravated battery, and unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, were eventually dismissed shortly after Cochran completed a competency evaluation, though it is not clear if that was the reason for the dismissal of charges.

According to a news release from the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office, on Saturday, deputies were called to a home in the 2000 North block of Ammon Road just after 10 p.m. after a report that a man was trying to force entry into the home.
The reporting parties stated that the man had pointed a gun at someone and was threatening to kill them. Deputies arrived and contacted the residents, who identified the suspect as Cochran and said they last saw him run toward the back of the property.
The residents also told deputies that Cochran “always carried firearms and knives” and believed he would kill them if they went outside, according to the news release.
Deputies searched the property and reportedly discovered lights turning on and off in a nearby camper that was not supposed to be occupied.
After attempts to get someone to come to the door, deputies were unable to get anyone inside the camper to respond. They then used an Idaho Falls Police K-9 to search inside, and after a few moments, deputies heard a response from a suspect being bitten by the K-9, indicating he would come out.
Cochran was then arrested and taken into custody. Deputies and Idaho Falls Ambulance Personnel provided first aid to Cochran for a dog bite to the arm before he was transported to the hospital for a jail clearance.
Cochran was then booked into the Bonneville County Jail. Future court hearings have not yet been scheduled.
