Dump truck crash kills two, sends four to hospital and closes Teton Pass

WILSON, Wyoming — Teton Pass between the Idaho State Line and Wilson, Wyoming, has been closed after a multi-car fatality crash on Tuesday.
The pass is estimated to reopen between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m., according to a press release from Jackson Hole Fire/EMS.
Arron Healy, a spokesman for Wyoming Highway Patrol, told EastIdahoNews.com that shortly before noon, a dump truck lost control and struck 6 other vehicles on the pass. The release states that emergency responders arrived at the crash site above Wilson to find a large section of the roadway blocked by disabled passenger vehicles, one overturned dump truck, and an asphalt spill from the dump truck.
Brent Blue, coroner for Teton County, Wyoming, said the crash resulted in two fatalities, and no other information can be shared about them at this time. Four additional people were injured and transported by ambulance to Saint John’s Medical Center in Jackson, according to the release.
Wyoming Highway Patrol remains on-scene investigating the cause of the crash, along with recovery and hazardous materials response personnel. Motorists should avoid the area until the road reopens to allow responders to complete the investigation and safely clear the roadway, the release states.
All responding agencies include Air Idaho, Jackson Hole Fire/EMS, Jackson Police Department, Saint John’s Medical Center, Teton County Coroner’s Office, Teton County Emergency Management, Teton County Sheriff’s Office and Wyoming Highway Patrol.
