Provo fire captain and family identified as victims of southern Utah flash flood

PROVO, Utah (ABC4) — It was confirmed on Saturday evening that Provo Fire Capt. Spencer Long and his family were the five people who died from the flash flooding at a campground in Wayne County on Friday.
“We are absolutely heartbroken by the death of Captain Spencer Long and his family. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time. Out of respect for the family and the ongoing official process, we will not be commenting further at this time,” Provo Fire and Rescue wrote in a social media post.
Provo Firefighters Union posted on Instagram that its wildland rapid extraction module (REM) team had left the Babylon wildfire in Blanding “to assist/aid in efforts of the current situation involving one of their own.”
It was later confirmed by a GoFundMe webpage that Spencer Long, his wife Katrina, and their sons Reid, Thayne and Gage were the victims of the devastating flash flood in Wayne County.

Spencer’s wife, Katrina, was also the co-founder of Summit Medical Spa, in Spanish Fork, and a former councilmember on the Mona City Council.
The City of Mona released the following statement:
“It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of former Councilmember Katrina Long following a tragic accident involving her family.
“Katrina dedicated countless hours of service to our community, and her kindness, leadership, and commitment made a lasting impact on so many lives. We will forever be grateful for all that Katrina and her family have done to support and strengthen our community.
“Our thoughts, prayers, and heartfelt condolences are with her family, especially her daughter Lydia, and all who knew and loved them during this difficult time. Katrina’s legacy of service and compassion will not be forgotten.”
