Nancy Lynn Oler

Nancy Lynn Oler, 73, passed away peacefully on July 27, 2026. Born on June 21, 1953, in Bremerton, Washington, Nancy was raised in Shelley, Idaho, where she graduated from Shelley High School with the Class of 1971.

Nancy believed life was meant to be lived outdoors. Whether she was behind a boat on water skis, casting a fishing line, golfing with friends, or simply enjoying a day on the water, she was happiest when the sun was shining and she was surrounded by the people she loved.

She began her career as a telephone operator with Mountain Bell before working in security at the Idaho National Laboratory. She later became a 911 dispatcher for Bonneville County and the City of Idaho Falls, a role that perfectly suited her calm demeanor, quick thinking, and genuine compassion for others. Throughout her career, Nancy had a remarkable ability to put people at ease—even on their worst days.

To know Nancy was to laugh with her. She possessed an unforgettable quick wit, a delightfully sarcastic sense of humor, and seemed to have a one-liner ready for every situation. She could make a room feel lighter with a single comment and had a gift for making everyone feel welcome, comfortable, and included. Her sarcasm was never mean-spirited—it was simply part of her charm and one of the many ways she connected with the people she loved. Friends and family knew they could always count on Nancy for an honest opinion, a perfectly timed joke, and a smile that made everything seem just a little better.

More than anything, Nancy treasured her family. She was endlessly proud of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and nothing brought her greater joy than spending time with them, sharing stories, creating memories, and cheering them on through life’s adventures.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Morris J. Oler and Lela J. Thomson, and by her brother, Paul M. Oler.

She is lovingly remembered by her children: Ang, Bryce, and Bryan; her grandchildren: Hailey and Kaitlin; her great-grandchildren: Bentley, Collins, Charley, and Miller; her sister, Jan; her brothers: Rick and Roger; and many extended family members, lifelong friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know her.

Nancy would probably roll her eyes at all this fuss, crack a sarcastic joke to lighten the mood, and remind us not to take life too seriously. She would want us to remember the laughter more than the tears, to spend time with the people we love, and to find every excuse possible to get outside and enjoy life.

Though she will be deeply missed, her quick wit, infectious laughter, and the countless memories she gave us will live on in the hearts of everyone who knew and loved her.
