IONA — A man was arrested Wednesday night after he allegedly exposed himself and possibly masturbated near Iona Elementary School.

Cory Bluemel, 57, has been charged with one count of indecent exposure and one count of resisting or obstructing officers.

Just before 9 p.m. Wednesday night, deputies from the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to Iona Elementary after a 15-year-old reported seeing a man exposing himself and possibly masturbating, court documents state.

Deputies arrived to find a man matching the description given in the initial call. The man was later identified as Bluemel.

Bluemel was allegedly “extremely intoxicated” and was drinking a Budweiser, according to documents. He reportedly refused to identify himself, and his identity was later confirmed by his sister.

Deputies spoke with witnesses who said Bluemel was first seen by a 15-year-old exposing and touching himself. The 15-year-old reported Bluemel to an adult at the park, who said Bluemel was too far away to see his body parts, but she had allegedly seen Bluemel “arched over on his knees” and it appeared he was “doing something questionable.”

The adult was the one to call law enforcement.

Bluemel was reportedly arrested and transported to Bonneville County Jail.

Bluemel is being represented by a public defender. The Idaho State Public Defender’s office does not comment on pending cases.

He is set to appear in court Sept. 3 for pre-trial conference.

Although Bluemel has been accused of a crime, that does not necessarily mean he committed it. Everyone is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
