Coroner identifies motorcyclist killed in collision by 18-year-old driver who fell asleep, police say

IDAHO FALLS — An 18-year-old Idaho Falls man is facing up to 15 years in prison after he allegedly killed a 30-year-old motorcyclist in a deadly crash.
Bonneville County Coroner Shante Sanchez identified the motorcyclist as Anthony Scott Kent of Idaho Falls.
Daniel Xyzavior Hartman has been charged with two felony counts: felony leaving the scene of an accident resulting in injury or death and vehicular manslaughter.
Hartman has been appointed a public defender. The Idaho State Public Defender’s Office does not comment on active cases.

According to court documents, at around 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, Hartman was driving south on North Holmes Avenue in a silver 2005 Pontiac Grand Am when he allegedly rear-ended Kent, who was driving a blue 1995 Suzuki motorcycle.
The document states that Kent was stopped at the intersection, waiting for the light to change. Hartman had allegedly fallen asleep while driving when the crash occurred.
In the collision, Kent was thrown onto the hood, where he struck the windshield.
After the crash, Hartman drove away from the intersection, heading south on North Holmes Avenue, when he noticed a car following him and began driving to lose it. He claims he wasn’t driving recklessly to lose the pursuing car.
After losing his pursuer, Hartman drove to a residence near the Pinecrest Golf Course, where he parked his vehicle in a garage to hide it. After doing so, Hartman began to walk away from the residence where he was located by an officer with the Idaho Falls Police Department.
During the conversation with the officer, Hartman admitted to crashing his vehicle and later seeing a motorcycle on the ground.
Kent was taken to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead from his injuries.
Hartman is scheduled for a preliminary hearing at 1 p.m. on Sept. 4 before Magistrate Judge Jacob Workman.
Though Hartman has been charged with these crimes, it does not necessarily mean he committed them. Everyone is presumed innocent until they are proven guilty.
