LINCOLN — Deputies with the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office were involved in an incident Friday where shots were fired, resulting in a man’s death.

According to a news release from the sheriff’s office, deputies were called to a home on Badger Creek Road around 6 a.m., after a man told dispatchers he was armed and going to kill himself.

When deputies arrived, they began working on getting other people out of the home when the man came out holding a gun, and “shots were fired,” according to the news release.

The exchange struck the man, and deputies began life-saving measures until Idaho Falls Ambulance arrived. Despite this effort, the man was declared dead at the scene.

No deputies were injured in the shooting.

The sheriff’s office requested the East Idaho Critical Incident Task Force to respond, with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office leading the investigation. The EICTF, which includes law enforcement agencies across eastern Idaho, will assist in the investigation.

The release states that there is no threat to the public and that no more information is available at this time.
