Idaho Falls man and dog reported missing after venturing into Wyoming mountains

PINEDALE, Wyo. — Officials are looking for a missing Idaho Falls man who hasn’t been seen since Saturday after going hiking in the Wyoming mountains.

According to the Sublette County Sheriff’s Office, Jonathan Bailey and his dog, a Labrador retriever named Wrigley, went missing after they embarked on a hike from Thousand Island Lake to the Elkhart parking lot in the Wind River Mountains.

According to a Facebook post from Bailey’s sister, Jennifer Baumgartner, Bailey and Wrigley were last seen by his family about 1:30 p.m. on Friday, and they did not arrive at the agreed-upon campsite.

“He has his pack with a sleeping bag, no tent. He has outdoor skills, but we’re all very worried. Any help is greatly appreciated,” reads Baumgartner’s post.

According to the Cowboy State Daily, Bailey is believed to be somewhere between the Elkhart Park Trailhead, about 14 miles northeast of Pinedale, and the Thousand Island Lake area in the Bridger Wilderness.

Bailey is described as a man in his mid-50s, roughly 5 feet 10 inches tall, with short light brown and gray hair and a neatly trimmed beard.

“He was carrying a black backpack and sleeping bag and wearing a yellow Wyoming ball cap, while Wrigley has on a red pack,” the Cowboy State Daily reports.

Although Wrigley appears to be a yellow Lab, Baumgartner says he is actually a red Lab.
