Idaho Falls Fire Department opens recruitment for new firefighters

IDAHO FALLS — The Idaho Falls Fire Department is seeking applicants for full-time firefighter positions as part of its 2026 recruitment cycle. The department is Idaho’s largest fire-based EMS provider and needs candidates prepared for the physical, mental and professional demands of the job.
IFFD firefighters respond to a wide variety of emergencies around the clock, including medical calls, structure fires, vehicle crashes, technical rescues, hazardous materials incidents and other emergencies.
The work can be physically and mentally demanding, and firefighters must be prepared to perform in unpredictable and sometimes difficult conditions.
“Firefighting is a challenging and rewarding career that offers the opportunity to serve the community, work as part of a close-knit team and make a meaningful difference in people’s lives,” said Hayli Egbert, the department’s public information officer.
“At the same time, it is demanding work that requires commitment, discipline, resilience, integrity, physical fitness and sound judgment,” Egbert added.
Those interested in pursuing a career in public safety are encouraged to begin the Public Safety Testing process now to be considered for this year’s recruitment cycle.
A local written test will be offered in person at University Place, 1784 Science Center Drive, on Saturday, Oct. 24. Candidates must complete the written test, either in person or online, by Sunday, Oct. 25.
Top candidates will be invited to participate in physical agility testing and first-round interviews Nov. 9-11. The physical agility test will be held in Idaho Falls on Nov. 9 and 10, with a practice session strongly encouraged on Nov. 8.
Final interviews will follow, with an anticipated nine to 12 new recruits selected and hired shortly thereafter.
