Local woman accused of hitting a pedestrian with her vehicle and fleeing scene

IDAHO FALLS — An Idaho Falls woman has been accused of hitting a pedestrian with her vehicle and leaving the scene of the crash.
Jennifer Rose Genung, 39, had been charged with one count leaving the scene of an injury accident, a felony, and one count of driving without privileges, a misdemeanor.
According to court documents, on Sept. 17 officers with the Idaho Falls Police Department responded to Boston Court for reports of a vehicle versus pedestrian incident. Law enforcement arrived to find the female victim crying.
The victim reportedly told officers she had slid across the concrete after being hit and had a road rash on the whole left side of her body. The victim reported she was just coming back from a run when a driver, later identified as Genung, allegedly struck her at the intersection of a sidewalk and parking lot.
Genung allegedly fled the scene of the incident.
The victim was transported to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center and officers stayed on scene to get statements from witnesses, who gave law enforcement a description of Genung’s vehicle. While on scene, Genung came back, court documents state.
Officers activated their emergency lights and stopped Genung to speak with. According to court documents, Genung claimed after hitting the victim she had stopped and asked the victim if they were ok. According to Genung, the victim said she was fine, so Genung left.
Genung was placed under arrest for allegedly leaving the scene of an injury accident, and was given the second charge for driving without insurance.
Genung has not yet been appointed an attorney.
If found guilty of the charges, Genung may face up to 5.5 years in prison and may be required to pay fines of up to $6,000.
She is set to appear in court Oct. 2 for a preliminary hearing.
Although Genung has been accused of a crime, that does not necessarily mean she committed it. Everyone is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
