Riverbend Awareness Project focuses on diabetes education
Published atLocal East Idaho mother and daughter, Nikki and Taylee Robertson, joined the Riverbend Awareness Project for November’s diabetes awareness focused episodes.
Taylee was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes around the age of five after a family camping trip brought some diabetes symptoms to Nikki’s attention. Both Taylee and Nikki shared their experience with diabetes, from learning what affected Taylee’s blood sugar levels to teaching past classmates about diabetes.
Along with learning about common misconceptions people have about foods diabetics can’t eat, the episodes also discuss some advances made in diabetes medical technology, specifically insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitors.
Both parts of the episode share the different, but dual perspectives of a mother helping her child live with diabetes, and how that child, now a young adult herself, has faced living with type 1 diabetes.
