Obituary
Rylee Nile Baird
January 31st, 1997 - September 18th, 2026
With broken hearts, we announce the unexpected passing of Rylee Nile Baird, who tragically lost his life in a car accident on September 18, 2026, at just 29 years old.
Rylee was born January 31, 1997, to John and Christine Baird, the fourth of their children. From the beginning, Rylee brought something special to his family. He grew into someone who was incredibly smart, quick to laugh, easy to talk to, and genuinely interested in the people and world around him.
Rylee shared a special bond with his siblings. Rylee had a way of making everything fun, even the simplest and most ordinary things. Together, they could turn the little moments into memories filled with laughter that their family will treasure forever.
If you knew Rylee, chances are you had a good conversation with him. He could talk about almost anything, but he especially loved politics and a good debate. And somehow, Rylee could disagree with you and still make you enjoy the conversation. He didn’t need everyone to think the way he did. He liked hearing another perspective, asking questions, making his case, and probably making you laugh somewhere in the middle of it. You could sit down intending to have a five-minute conversation with Rylee and find yourself still talking much later.
He also never seemed to forget how to have fun. At family gatherings, there was a good chance you’d find Rylee with the kids. He didn’t just tolerate the chaos, he joined it. He entertained them, played with them, made them laugh, and brought a lightness to his extended family that will be deeply missed. He loved family dinners, spending time with his siblings, and simply being together. Rylee didn’t need a big occasion to have a good time. He had a way of making the ordinary moments good ones.
But if there was one thing that defined Rylee, it was how much he loved his family.
Rylee married his high school sweetheart and soulmate, McKenzy Anderson, on April 6, 2018. Together, they built a life and welcomed three children, Emma (8), Delilah (4), and Ronan (2). McKenzy and the kids weren’t just an important part of Rylee’s life, they were the center of it.
Rylee was an amazing dad, and he was all-in when it came to raising his kids. He wasn’t waiting to be told what needed to be done. He made dinner, got the kids ready, handled finances, figured things out, took charge when life got complicated, and carried the everyday responsibilities that come with raising a family. He was involved, dependable, and present. His children knew a dad who played with them, cared for them, made them laugh, and showed up for them every day.
Rylee loved McKenzy fiercely. She was his high school sweetheart, his wife, his partner, and truly his soulmate. Her happiness mattered to him. He wanted to know she was okay, that she had what she needed, and that she felt completely loved and cared for. So much of what Rylee did was done with McKenzy and their children in mind. Taking care of them wasn’t an obligation to him. It was simply who he was.
That same dependability extended to the other people lucky enough to love him. Rylee was the friend you could call. He was the family member who stepped in. He was a son, brother, grandson, uncle, cousin, and friend who showed up with a smile, usually a laugh, and a willingness to help. His siblings weren’t just his siblings, they were his friends, and the relationships he built throughout his life mattered deeply to him.
There are so many little things about a person that don’t seem important enough to write down until suddenly they are everything. Rylee’s family will miss hearing his laugh from across the room. They’ll miss the conversations that went on forever, the political debates, watching him play with the kids, gaming, dinners together, the way he took charge when something needed to be handled, and simply knowing Rylee was there.
Rylee is survived by his wife and soulmate, McKenzy Baird, and their beloved children, Emma, Delilah, and Ronan; his mother, Christine Baird; his siblings, Tasja Jackson (Paul), Zachary Baird (Rebekah), and Connor Baird (Alina); his grandmother, Joyce Orchard; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, his mother-in-law, and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Baird; his brother, Andrew “AJ” Baird; his grandfather, Theo Orchard; his grandmother, Carol Ann Baird; and his father-in-law, John Anderson.
Twenty-nine years was nowhere near enough time for Rylee, and there is an enormous emptiness where he should still be. But there is also so much of him left behind; in the family he helped build, in the people who are better for having known him, in a thousand stories that will continue to be told, and especially in Emma, Delilah, and Ronan, as they grow and learn more about the dad who loved them beyond measure.
Rylee was deeply loved, and he made sure the people who mattered most to him knew they were deeply loved, too. He will be forever missed, forever talked about, forever laughed about, and forever loved.
Family and friends are invited to gather at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road, in Ammon on Friday, September 25, 2026, from 7-8:30 p.m. A funeral service will not be held.
