A trip down memory lane at Mother Goose Daycare & Preschool
Published at | Updated atCHUBBUCK — Coming up with ideas for my Workin’ It features for EastIdahoNews.com can sometimes be tricky. I try to find jobs I’ve always thought might be fun but have never actually done.
This time, I decided to take a little trip down memory lane.
Back in the 1990s, my two little boys, Forrest and Trey, attended Mother Goose Daycare & Preschool in Chubbuck. I spent plenty of time there dropping them off and picking them up, attending Halloween parties and watching Christmas programs.
I always loved the energy of all those little kids and remember thinking more than once that working at a preschool might be a pretty fun job.
So, when the current owner, Cori Spillett, agreed to put me to work for my Workin’ It feature, I was thrilled.
Walking through the doors brought back memories. I felt that same energy from the kids playing outside on a beautiful fall day and it really took me back
I started out serving snacks to the older kids arriving by bus for after-school care. They were so polite and well-behaved. Then, I blew bubbles in the yard, colored pictures, and was entertained and even joined in some singing. I even knew one of their songs from my own childhood: “I’m Bringing Home a Baby Bumblebee.”
The kids were especially excited about being “in the news,” and several were already telling me about their Halloween costume plans. Ghost spiders seem to be a thing this year.
But what struck me most was just how sweet they were.
Every child I spent time with was fun, kind and remarkably well-behaved. Of course, anyone who has ever been around little kids knows every day isn’t filled with bubbles, coloring and cheerful songs. Tears, accidents, and an occasional meltdown are bound to happen.
But for just a little while, I got to step back into a place that held some special memories for me. Only this time, I wasn’t there to pick up my own little boys. I was Workin’ It.
And it turned out to be one of the highlights of my week.
