Claudia Houston Chamberlain, 79, of Ammon, passed away peacefully on October 1, 2026, at Teton Healthcare of Cascadia, surrounded by her family.

She was born August 31, 1947, in Logan, Utah, to Roy D. Houston and Chloe Irene Reece Houston.

She grew up in North Ogden and graduated from Weber High School. She had many talents and interests, including ballet, tap, and ballroom dancing. Later in life, she especially enjoyed watching her granddaughters participate in ballet as young dancers.

As a young girl, she also excelled in competitive swimming and even started her own swim club in high school. She made sure her children learned to love the water as well. She was also a beautiful singer who participated in choirs and enjoyed singing throughout her life.

After she graduated from high school and was attending BYU, she started dating her future sweetheart. They continued a long-distance relationship through phone calls, letters and occasional dates. They had a fairy tale engagement at Bridal Veil Falls up Provo canyon and she got the marquee diamond she dreamed of. They were married and sealed in the Logan LDS Temple on May 31, 1966.

After they were married, she and John lived in Ogden for a time before John accepted a position with the Boy Scouts of America in Oakland, California. This was the beginning of a very adventurous life of camping and scouting for her. She learned to love nature and all the beautiful things God created.

After living in Oakland and Hayward, California, they moved back to Layton, Utah, where she was happy to once again be closer to family and friends. A promotion for John later took the family to Idaho Falls, Idaho. They eventually made a couple more moves, to San Luis Obispo, California, and Lehi, Utah, as John finished his career.

Throughout her life, she had a keen interest in shorthand, typing, and business, talents that served her well in her working years. She worked at a CPA office, as a secretary at Bonneville High School in Idaho Falls, and Greenwood elementary in Utah. She loved her association with the students. Working at the schools also allowed her to keep a close eye on her own children, making it difficult for them to ever get away with anything.

After retirement, they returned to Idaho Falls to be near lifelong friends and family. Claudia enjoyed working as a pharmacy technician at Eastgate Pharmacy, where she was known as one of the kindest employees. She was especially proud when she became the face of the pharmacy on a large billboard on Hitt Road.

She found joy in so many things. One of her favorite holidays was Christmas, and she loved collecting nativities. Her favorite season was fall. In her own words, “I love the beauty of the changing color of the leaves and the coolness of the air. To me, it’s a peaceful and serene time”.

She loved growing flowers and surrounding her home with them. She also enjoyed painting, crocheting, and sewing. Claudia also loved to travel, especially anywhere with a beautiful beach where she could let the sunshine on her face.

She was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and took great pride in her church service. Claudia and John served a mission at the Idaho Falls Temple Visitors’ Center, and later she served at BYU-Idaho as a family history consultant.

She also served as a temple worker, Stake Relief Society president, and in many other callings, each of which she magnified with all her soul. She loved reading her scriptures and attending the temple. Claudia had a deep desire to serve others and often found ways to help those around her, even when she wasn’t feeling well herself. She was an example of hard work and had a gift for inspiring others to do their best.

Her last calling was as Stake Indexing Coordinator, where she led and inspired her stake to achieve the highest indexing numbers in the entire Church, with more than two million names per year. She was very proud of this accomplishment and felt she was doing her part to assist those on the other side of the veil.

Above all, Claudia loved her family. She loved being with her children and grandchildren and rarely missed a special event. Her greatest joy was being a mother and grandmother and she was incredibly proud of each of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She longed for the day when she could once again be with her sweetheart, who passed away 16 years ago, and her son Chad, who passed away at birth. She has now received that wish and is having a wonderful reunion with them.

Claudia is survived by her son, David (Shawna) Chamberlain of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Steven (Brenda) Chamberlain of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Ryan Chamberlain of Pocatello, ID; sister, Joy (James) Peterson of Layton, UT; sister, Gay (Les) McBirnie of West Yellowstone, MT; sister, Ellen (Mark) Minnoch of North Ogden, UT; eight grandchildren- Amber (Braydon), Corbin (Whitney), Briton (Bailee), Leah (Caden), Cody, Kylee, Houston and Jameson, and nine great-grandchildren- Charlotte, Boston, Georgia, Hudson, Truman, Tommy, Ivee, Alfie, and Parker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Timothy John Chamberlain; infant son, Randall Chad Chamberlain; parents, Roy and Chloe Houston; sisters, Dawna Tourangeau and Tamara Royer; and brother, Roger Houston.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 10, 2026, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints building located at 1100 S. Tiebreaker in Ammon. The family will visit with friends Friday from 6:30–8:00 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road, and Saturday from 12:00–12:45 p.m. prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the Iona Cemetery.

Her family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to all those who have loved and cared for her over the past several years as her memory began to fade. We are especially grateful for the many aides, nurses, and caregivers at Teton Healthcare of Cascadia who cared for her with such kindness and love. She was loved by so many, and we will always be grateful for the compassion shown to her.

She will be deeply missed, but the love she gave and the example she set will continue to live on in the hearts and lives of those who knew her. She left a beautiful impression on this world through her faith, her service, and, most of all, her love for her family. While we will miss her dearly, we find comfort in knowing she has been reunited with her sweetheart, John, her son Chad, and other loved ones who passed before her. We can only imagine the joy of that reunion—and we know she will continue doing what she has always done: loving and serving others.

Till we meet again.

Condolences may be sent to the family at www.woodfuneralhome.com.
