Cooper Ouelette Trial Day 1: Sophie’s family heartbreaking testimony, what happened when she died
Published atIt was day one of Cooper Ouellette’s trial and it began with emotional testimony from the family of 17-year-old Sophie, who died after prosecutors say Ouellette ran her over with his pickup truck in May 2023.
Sophie’s mother, Lynne, described the horrifying moment Ouellette arrived at their home with her daughter slumped over in his truck. Her father, Scott, recalled desperately trying to save her, while her older brother, Jackson, testified that Ouellette gave him two different accounts of what happened that night.
The defense challenged the family’s account, questioned Sophie’s alcohol use and raised questions about the events leading up to her death.
Ouellette, who was 18 at the time, has pleaded not guilty to first-degree manslaughter. He maintains that Sophie fell from his moving truck.
