IDAHO FALLS — Skyline High School has earned $30,000 in T-Mobile’s Friday Night 5G Lights competition, with the money expected to help fund improvements to the school’s practice field, locker rooms and weight room.

Skyline finished eighth in the West Division, earning more than 10,900 votes from supporters throughout the competition. Although the Idaho Falls school did not advance to the final round, its performance secured funding to improve facilities for its student-athletes.

The competition brought together nearly 2,500 high schools from across the country, with communities rallying behind their teams for a chance to win major athletic facility upgrades.

T-Mobile announced that four schools have advanced to the final round, where they will compete for a $1 million football field upgrade. The finalists are Buffalo Gap High School in Virginia, Menasha High School in Wisconsin, Covington High School in Louisiana and Lakeside High School in Washington.

Each division champion has already secured $250,000, along with a gym upgrade from Gronk Fitness and a $5,000 student leadership award. The grand prize winner will be announced Nov. 12.

T-Mobile announced that 1,000 schools nationwide received $5,000 through its $5K Fridays sweepstakes. Eighteen Idaho schools were among the recipients, bringing a total of $90,000 to schools across the state for improvements benefiting students and their communities.

Voting for the final round runs through Nov. 8 at FridayNight5GLights.com.
