Forward Steve Downie Signs 1-Year Contract with Penguins
Published at(PITTSBURGH) — Free-agent winger Steve Downie signed a one-year, $1 million deal with the Pittsburgh Penguins Wednesday. The 27-year-old Downie played last season with the Colorado Avalanche and Philadelphia Flyers, dishing out 20 assists and compiling 24 points.
Downie is reunited with Penguins assistant coach Rick Tocchet, who coached Downie in Tampa Bay during the 2009-10 season. That season Downie had career highs in goals [24] and assists [46].
Downie becomes the fifth player signed by Pittsburgh in the last two days. The Penguins also signed defenseman Christian Ehrhoff, winger Blake Comeau and goaltender Thomas Greiss, while also re-signing forward Marcel Goc.
