Bradley Owens

February 12th, 1947 - March 16th, 2024

Bradley Blaine Owens, 77, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, lost his courageous battle to cancer on March 16, 2024.

Brad was born on February 12, 1947, in Rigby, Idaho, to Blaine Eugene Owens and Darlene Zoe Owens. He grew up in St. Anthony, Idaho, where he graduated from South Fremont High School in 1965. After graduation, he fought in the Vietnam War as a Specialist Five E5 (SP5) where he received two Purple Hearts, a Bronze Star, and an Army Commendation Medal for heroism in battle.

He retired from the Idaho National Laboratory in 2012 where he had worked as a Fire Engineer. After retirement, he pursued a career in his real passion for golf, working at Sandcreek Golf Course. His hobbies and interests included playing golf, bowling, playing and watching baseball, and watching football, soccer, and softball.

He always supported his children and grandchildren in everything they did. Whether it was being at their sporting events, teaching them how to drive, or just being the one they called when they needed to hear a “Hi, little person!” or a “Muy flippin’ bueno.”

And no matter what, the mood was always “Fair to partly cloudy.”

To say he will be missed beyond measure is an understatement. Our hearts will never be the same, but knowing he is at peace and golfing on the most heavenly courses makes it all a little easier.

Brad is survived by his wife, Wendy Owens of Idaho Falls, ID; stepmother, Darlene Owens of Idaho Falls, ID; brother, Larry Owens (Jana) of Boise, ID; daughter, Lori Hoover (Matt) of Burton, ID; daughter, Sonya Pelot (Brad) of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter, Tina King (Justin) of Roosevelt, UT; son, Shawn Owens (Jen) of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter, Bradey Williams (Korin) of Rigby, ID; stepson, Ryan Benson (Kristy) of Rexburg, ID; stepdaughter, Heather Shortsleeve of Idaho Falls, ID; and stepdaughter, Taeler Holland (Tanner) of Idaho Falls, ID.

He is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and 1 granddaughter that will be joining the family in August of this year.

Brad was preceded in death by his father, Blaine Owens, and mother, Darlene Zoe Owens.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at the Teton Cancer Institute, the Idaho Falls Community Hospital, Hospice of Eastern Idaho, and Grand Teton Gastroenterology for the care they showed Brad, as well as the love and support they have shown our family through this difficult time.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road. The family will visit with friends Monday from 6:30-8 p.m. and Tuesday from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to services, both visitations at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery in Blackfoot.

Condolences may be sent to the family at www.woodfuneralhome.com.
