Brandon Rainey

Brandon Troy Rainey of Coltman, Idaho passed away August 28, 2026 following a boating accident while fishing with his wife and father-in-law in the mountains that they loved.

Brandon was born November 12, 1986, to Troy Wayne and Tori Angell (Covington) Rainey. Being an only child meant that Brandon spent his life being loved and cherished by his parents and extended family. He was raised on a small farm in Iona and loved everything about living and working on the farm. He attended school in Iona and graduated from Bonneville High School in 2005.

At just 16 years old, he met the love of his life, Rachael Joy Martineau. After four years of riding in tractors and lots of rides in his 1979 Ford truck together, they were married in the Idaho Falls temple on May 12, 2007.

Brandon and Rachael welcomed their first son, Rayce Brandon in 2009. Ryker Glen came along a short 13 months later in 2010, and Brynlee Joy completed their family in 2013. Brandon’s greatest joy was being a husband and a father; he absolutely adored his children and anchored himself in every aspect of their lives. A devoted and adventurous dad, Brandon introduced his children to his favorite pastimes early, teaching them to ride a dirt bike before they were out of diapers. Brandon brought his children into all of his favorite hobbies —from hunting and fishing to riding horses, dirt bikes, and snowmobiles—and he was just as dedicated to showing up for them, fiercely supporting his kids in all of their sports.

Brandon earned his diesel mechanic certification from Eastern Idaho Technical College in 2007 and received his associate’s degree from the College of Eastern Idaho this May. Early in his career, he worked as a diesel mechanic at Western States Caterpillar for a couple of years and was then hired at the INL. He advanced through his career at the INL and was working in Fleet Support at the time of his death.

Brandon was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and was currently serving as the 2nd Counselor in the Bishopric of the Coltman ward. He has served in various callings within the church but most enjoyed his time serving with the youth.

Brandon embraced being the purest form of a true friend. He was constantly serving those around him and had an incredible knack for loving and accepting people. He loved anything with a motor and was a mechanical genius – there are many people in this valley who have benefited from his talents. Brandon had a great sense of humor, he loved to tease and had a rare gift for leaving people happier than he found them. He will be so incredibly missed.

Brandon is survived by his wife, Rachael; his three children Rayce, Ryker, and Brynlee; parents, Troy and Tori Rainey; grandparents, Gary Rainey, Troy Covington, and Charlotte (Dallas) Orchard; and (non-biological) sisters, Lyndsay (Greg) Goody, Kellie (Brett) Wilde, Lori (Zac) Fillmore, and Annie (Matt) Bingham. He was preceded in death by his grandmothers, Priscilla Skaar Rainey and Merry Jo Covington. Sadly, he was joined death by his friend and father-in-law, Robert “Bob” Martineau. Brandon had many friends that he viewed as brothers; we won’t name them all here, but they know who they are.

A viewing will be held at the Ucon Idaho Stake Center located at 2967 E 105 N, Ucon, ID 83454, on Thursday, September 3, 2026 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 4, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at the Ucon Idaho Stake Center, the family will visit with friends from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. In honor of Brandon’s lifelong passion for anything with an engine, attendees are invited to drive their best ride to join the funeral procession.
