Diana Mae Hoffenbacker, 83, of Idaho Falls, passed away Wednesday, July 28, 2021, at the Gables of Ammon. She was under the care of Encompass Hospice.

Diana was born on November 10, 1937, in Butte, Montana, to Charles William Byrne and George Dell McLaughlin Byrne. She was one of the ‘famous Byrne twins’ among the earliest identical twins born by a caesarian. She grew up in Butte and graduated from Butte High School in 1956.

Diana worked as a nurse’s aide while they lived in Butte. She enjoyed helping others and volunteered as a candy striper at St. James Hospital, as a docent at the Museum of Idaho, and ran the library at the Gables of Ammon.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, and friend who was fiercely loyal and protective of her family and friends. Those who were in her life meant everything to her. She was an avid reader who devoted many hours helping in the library to ensure others had access to the magic of literature which brought so much joy to her life. She will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by those who knew her.

Diana is survived by her daughter, Janet (James) Earnest of Shelley, Idaho; her sons: Steven (Martha) Hoffenbacker of Marysville, Washington, David (Phil) Hoffenbacker of Prescott, Arizona, and Robert (Kimberley) Hoffenbacker of Idaho Falls, Idaho; her sister, Donna (Robert) Hephy of Alabaster, Alabama; her grandchildren: Debra, Michelle, Erica, Britney, Alex, Lance, Adam, and Bradley; 14 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
