Dr. Duane H Smith, 79, of Idaho Falls, passed away May 13, 2026, at his home surrounded by his wife and several of his children.

Duane was born August 12, 1946, in Soda Springs, Idaho, to Horace Egbert Smith and Olive Theone Cooper Smith. He grew up in Goshen, Idaho, and graduated from Firth High School. He later attended Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, and graduated with his Doctorate from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa.

On May 11, 19 He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served a mission in the Gulf States from 1965 to 1967. He also served an addiction recovery service mission with his sweetheart, Audrey, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, from 2012-2014. He was an Eagle Scout, FFA president, and in the ROTC. He also taught health classes for the community for over 50 years, always encouraging attendees to bring a sick friend.

Duane was a devoted patriot with a deep love for his country. He was also true, blue BYU and always eager to watch the Cougars play football or basketball. He enjoyed camping, hunting, all things Boy Scouts, quilting, weaving, storytelling, waterskiing, softball, teaching, boating, sitting on the beach in Cancun, and spending time with his family. He was a friend to all, giving generously of his time, talents, and energy to build, serve, and uplift others.

Duane is survived by his wife, Audrey Smith of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter, Davilyn (John) Laughlin of Colorado Springs, CO; daughter, Debra (Thomas) Baker of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Adam (Amy) Smith of Arlington, TN; son, Aaron (Carri) Smith of Colorado Springs, CO; daughter, Denise (Bradley) Roedel of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Andrew Smith of Grand Junction, CO; son, Alma (Nicole) Smith of Elma, WA; brother, Kent Smith of Ogden, UT; sister, Louise Bowman of Chandler, AZ; sister, Ethlene (Marvin) Rock of Inkom, ID; sister, Mavanie Vein of Orem, UT; 28 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Danielle Smith; sister, Jewel Barzee; and sister, Shawna Speirs.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 6, 2026, at 3721 Shadow Mountain Trail Road, Idaho Falls, Idaho. The family will visit with friends Saturday from 10:00-10:45 a.m. prior to services at the church. Inurnment will be in the Ammon Cemetery at a later date.
