Greg Hanson

November 4th, 1969 - March 14th, 2024

Greg Edward Hanson, 54, of Idaho Falls passed away on Thursday, March 14, 2024, in the woods near Swan Valley.

Greg was born on November 4, 1969, to George Eddie Hanson & Jeanne Louise Piscitelli Hanson in Springfield, Illinois. He grew up in Springfield, participating in Boy Scouts, Church activities, soccer, and any hunting &/or fishing adventure he could find. He graduated from Springfield Southeast High School in 1988. He then attended Lincoln Land Community College before coming to the University of Idaho in 1990 and graduating in 1994 with a degree in Range Resources.

In 1994, while working for the Ketchum Ranger District, he met Michelle Renae Speich. They were married in 1996 in Hampton, Iowa. In 1997, Greg and Michelle relocated to South Dakota where Greg worked for the Bureau of Indian Affairs on the Crow Creek Reservation. While there, they welcomed Megan Elizabeth into their family in September 1998.

In 1999, Greg and his family moved to Idaho Falls where Greg worked for the Palisades Ranger District of the Caribou-Targhee National Forest, where he remained. In December 2002, their family added Caleb Joseph.

Greg was happiest being outdoors. He especially enjoyed sharing that with his children and Caleb’s fellow scouts in Pack/Troop 6. He hunted, trapped, and fished anything and everything, and often joked that “hunting season never ends.”

He shared his interest with his children and supported their other endeavors, spending time at the ballet, coaching baseball, cheering for Skyline Football and Track, and attending theater and band presentations. He was also an active member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church, and a strong supporter of Luther Heights Bible Camp.

He is survived by his wife, Michelle Hanson; his son, Caleb (Grace) Hanson; his daughter, Megan Hanson; his parents, George and Jeanne Hanson; his Mother-in-law, Della Speich; his Brother- and Sister-in-law, Barry & Paula Speich; and his nieces, Natalia & Jhanna Golicova.

Greg was preceded in death by his grandparents, Eddie and Beulah Hanson and Ted and Mary Piscitelli; his brother, Scott Kish Hanson; and his father-in-law, Norman Speich.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 21, 2024, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 455 West Sunnyside Road in Idaho Falls. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Following the service, there will be a lunch for the sharing of food, fellowship, and a celebration of Greg’s life.

Condolences can be sent to the family at www.woodfuneralhome.com.
