Howard Eugene Johnson

December 20th, 1940 - March 8th, 2020

Howard Eugene Johnson of Idaho Falls passed away March 8, 2020, he was under the care of Turtle and Crane Assisted Living, Hands of Hope Home Health and Hospice and his loving family.

Howard was born December 20, 1940 in Everton, Arkansas, the son of Claude and Winnie Johnson.

On April 15th, 1960, Howard married the love of his life Carol Ann Casper and together they had 3 daughters Terri (Robert) Bond of Elk Grove California, Linda (Cal) Thrasher and Monica (Jeff) Layton both of Idaho Falls.

Howard worked hard to support his family, working most of his life as a truck driver and retiring from Basic American Foods. After retirement Howard returned to work for Eastern Idaho Community Action Partnership where he worked until his health would no longer allow.

Howard loved to fish and camp up at Mesa Falls in Island Park. You could find him there every weekend during the summer or in his yard tending to his many flower gardens. He had a green thumb and took great pride in his beautiful roses and flower beds and loved the praises he would get from people who stopped to visit as they passed by. He also found he had somewhat of an artist in him, and found he loved to paint oil paintings. Howard never became famous and sold his paintings for millions, instead he enjoyed giving them away to family and friends as gifts to adorn their living room walls.

Howard is survived by his loving wife of almost 60 years, his three amazing daughters and their spouses, 7 grandkids and 12 great grandkids, all of whom he loved dearly, he would always say, “If had known grandkids would be so much more fun to have, I would’ve had them first.” He also is survived by his three sisters, Lillian, Helen, and Alpha (his little Alphie), and his brother Bill. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Leonard.

Howard’s family would like to invite those who knew and loved Howard to join them this Saturday March 14th, 2020, as we all say goodbye to a great man who will be missed dearly by all those who knew him.
