Jeffrey Lynn Stanfield, 77, of Idaho Falls, passed away April 29, 2026, at his home. He was under the care of Hospice of Eastern Idaho.

Jeff was born April 10, 1949, in Whittier, California, to Larry Allred Stanfield and Muriel Lucille Tatjes Stanfield. He grew up and attended schools in Central Valley. He made many memories drag racing his 1969 Road Runner on the streets of Redding.

Jeff married Audrey Noble in 1971. They moved to Moreland, Idaho, a few years later, along with Jeff’s parents and siblings. In Moreland, they raised their sons: Cody, Kit, Flint, and Soren. Jeff worked farm jobs and drove truck, until he went to work at the INL Site for NRF. Jeff moved to Idaho Falls in the late nineties, after he and Audrey divorced.

Hunting was a lifelong pastime for the Stanfield’s. Jeff hunted waterfowl and deer alongside his father in California. In Idaho, their focus turned to mule deer and elk. Jeff was passionate about hunting and dreamed about horses, wall tents and big antlers all year long. He joked that he was born in the wrong century, as the mountain man life suited him best.

Jeff’s hobbies also included hot rods and Harleys. He built ’36 and ’33 Plymouths and participated in cruises and, sometimes, car shows. For his last build he brought home the bare metal body of a ’33 Plymouth Coupe and set it right in the middle of the patio, behind the garage. He then built a room around it and worked all winter on the car of his dreams. The next summer he drove that car–flat black paint, blown motor, big fat tires, suicide doors, pinstriped and upholstered–right out the front of the garage. It was cool and it went fast!

Jeff traveled nearly 200,000 miles on his ’92 Harley Softail Custom. He loved to just cruise the back highways, never in a hurry, just feeling the wind on his face and enjoying the natural beauty of our country. He was an expert at packing equipment for a very comfortable camp inside his saddle bags.

When he met his neighbor Kirsten Howes in 2004, a courtship involving many Harley rides with beautiful sunsets ensued. This led to a honeymoon in Sturgis. The wedding took place in Kirsten’s backyard garden. Over the next 20 years Jeff helped her build it into a private little Eden where they spent many content hours together. They were later sealed in the Denver temple.

Known in his younger years as a hard character, Jeff mellowed into a soft hearted and gentle man. He had a very serious personality and appeared stoic and reserved, but that was the outside version. He could be mischievous and fun, romantic and sensitive. He was a ponderous thinker, seeking understanding or solutions for life’s heavy burdens. He was also a poet! And his favorite genre of all was the Western–endless Gun Smoke on tv, or reading cowboy books. He rooted for the underdog, and liked it when the hero got the girl in the end.

Jeff was a life-long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He had unwavering faith and strove for self-improvement always.

He is survived by his wife, Kirsten Stanfield; former wife, Audrey Stanfield; sons Cody (Cami) Stanfield of Blackfoot, Kit Stanfield of Surprise, AZ, Soren (Katie) Stanfield of Blackfoot; stepsons Tigan Howes of Idaho Falls, and Sterling (Ryan) Howes of La Center, WA; three grandchildren: Logan, Avalon, and Havalah; brother Steve (Kaui) Stanfield of Idaho Falls, and sister Kathy Goodwin of Aberdeen.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Flint Adin Stanfield; and sister Kim Thomas.

Services will be held at a later date.

Condolences may be sent to the family at www.woodfuneralhome.com.
