Kevin A Mecham

Kevin A Mecham, 69, of Blackfoot, ID, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on May 8, 2026. Kevin was born in Blackfoot August 17, 1956, to Archie and Marjorie Mecham. Early on, he developed a love for adventure, friends, farming, and the outdoors. He had a thirst for knowledge and life was always ready to teach. He always wanted to know how things worked and was good at repairs. While considered a free spirit, he did not stray far from Blackfoot and made it his permanent home.

He met his then-future wife, Lori, at church activities in 1979, and they were wed December 11, 1981. They were sealed nine years later in the Idaho Falls Temple. Together, they welcomed four children, Derek, Kyle, Trey, and Sharece, into their loving home. Above all, Kevin treasured family time and activities and building relationships with those he cared about, willingly sacrificing time and energy to provide opportunities for success and be present in their lives. His advice to his grandchildren is to like who they are, decide to be happy, and care about the people around them.

Many who knew Kevin associated him with the motorcycles he rode. He considered his time on two wheels to be therapeutic and enlightening as he explored the world God created. He was also an avid whitewater rafter, hunter, skier, traveler, and reader, and he shared these passions with his family.

He worked at the INL for 23 years, yet he most identified as a farmer and enjoyed the friendships he cultivated in his 25+ years working with and around his dad, his brother, and many friends in the area. He particularly liked harvests.

Kevin was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He loved his Savior and fulfilled many callings with dedication, including in scouting, young men’s organizations, and in several bishoprics.

He placed high value on pursuing dreams, happiness, and creating a welcoming environment. His approach to life was often shown to uplift others, especially in his quiet and typically anonymous acts of service. He endured significant pain throughout his adult life but rarely let it slow him down. Even with his most recent battle with cancer and stroke, he chose to keep a positive attitude and welcomed many friends for one last visit. As was his nature, he was still magnifying his calling to the end.

Kevin is survived by his beloved wife, Lori, his children, Derek (Mary), Kyle (Elena), Trey (Milli), and Sharece as well as eleven grandchildren: Chelsea, Ryan, Lara, Daniel, Jett, Roman, Lily, Lyla, Boden, Brie, and Luca whom he loved very much. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters: Steve, Taunya, Tyana, Cristi, Doug, and John. He was preceded in death by his parents, Archie and Marjorie, his sister, Marjie Dawn, brothers-in-law LaMar Thompson and Roger Herrick, niece Stacy Saxton, nephews Brandon Bird and Kit Saxton, granddaughter Bianca, and many other cherished ancestors and friends. He will be deeply missed with anticipation of a joyful reunion.

His family would like to thank all of the caregivers Kevin had over many years: Dr. Hales, Dr. Stromberg, Dr. Soucie, Dr. Dailey, and the University of Utah hospital. They would also like to thank his caregivers at Aspen Home Health and Hospice.

A viewing for family and friends will be held at Hawker Funeral Home on May 14, 2026, from 6-8pm with funeral services following on May 15, 2026, at 11am with a family gathering beginning at 10am. Interment will be at the Groveland Cemetery.
