Lyle Ray Schiess

September 11th, 1946 - January 17th, 2024

Lyle Ray Schiess of Victor, ID, passed away peacefully at the Teton Valley Hospital on Wednesday, January 17, 2024. Lyle was born on September 11, 1946 in Rexburg, ID to Edwin and Viona Schiess. He was born just a few minutes after his twin brother, Lynn, making him number 6 of 7 kids.

Lyle grew up on the family farm in Cedron, Idaho. He attended elementary there and graduated from Teton High School. He attended Ricks College and wrestled there. He then attended Utah State. Then, Lyle went on to serve a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Northern California Mission. After returning from his mission, Lyle worked at Grand Targhee and fed Elk in Pinedale, Wyoming. He eventually returned back to work on the family farm.

In 1981, he met the love of his life, Kelly Sharp, along with her son Cory Watson. They became a family on January 2, 1982 during a snow storm. Together, they welcomed three more children: Leah, Chance, and Megan. They were later sealed along with their children in the Idaho Falls Temple on June 30, 1988. They made their home in Cedron in the same home Lyle grew up in, where Lyle and Lynn were established as Schiess Brothers Farm: farming malt barley, seed potatoes, hay, and cattle. Farming was Lyle’s life.

During his free time in the winter, he became an avid trapper, expert hunter, and had the greatest love of ice fishing with his children taking his snow plane out on the Jackson Lake along with his great friend, Robert Hill.

Lyle was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many different callings.

Lyle is survived by his wife Kelly Sharp Schiess of Victor ID; children Cory (Rachel) Watson of Rigby ID, Leah (Greg) Larson of St. Anthony ID, Megan (Travis) Markegard of Victor ID; two brothers, two sisters; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his twin brother Lynn, sister Sharon Bates, son Chance Schiess, and grandson Justin Watson.

The Schiess family extends deep appreciation to the Teton Valley Hospital Nursing Staff, for their kindness shown to Lyle during his time there, and especially to Dr. Prissel.

Funeral services for Lyle will be held on Tuesday, January 23, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the Victor 3rd LDS Ward Building (87 E Center St. Victor ID 83445).
