Obituary
Michael Terrence Thurmond
February 13th, 1944 - June 5th, 2026
Michael Terrence Thurmond, born February 13, 1944, in San Diego, California, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2026, in Pocatello, Idaho, after a life filled with adventure, faith, and love for family.
The only child of John “Kleber” Thurmond and Ruth Broyles, Mike developed a deep appreciation for the outdoors that remained with him throughout his life. He loved exploring old dirt roads, hunting along the way, and taking time to enjoy the journey as much as the destination, often with a beloved dog by his side. An avid rockhound, he filled his home with treasured finds collected throughout his many adventures. He especially loved sharing his passion for the outdoors with his three children, Robb, Carissa, and Eric.
Mike proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam era and was stationed in Germany. He loved his time spent in Germany and in the service.
A devoted follower of his Heavenly Father and Savior, Jesus Christ, Mike often reminded those around him that every day was a blessing. Whether sharing stories, recipes, advice, or his testimony, Mike had a gift for connecting with people and making them feel valued. Those same qualities made him a successful salesman, a profession he genuinely loved.
Mike was preceded in death by his father, Kleber Thurmond; his mother, Ruth Broyles; his wife, Annie DeFosses; and her son, Michael DeFosses.
He is survived by his children, Robb Thurmond, Carissa (Matthew) Maher, and Eric (Kelsey) Thurmond; and by his beloved grandchildren, Farren, Soren, Aiden, Ellie, Quinten, Anna, and Ryken.
Mike will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, his love of nature, his unwavering faith, and his eagerness to share his testimony. While his presence will be deeply missed, his family finds comfort in the many memories he leaves behind and in the knowledge that the blessings he recognized each day continue beyond this life.
The family extends a special thank you to Happy to Help for the kindness, compassion, and care shown to Mike. They are also deeply grateful for the many friends and community members who enriched his life with friendship, support, and love. Your presence in his life was a true blessing.
Funeral services for Mike will be held at 12:00 p.m., on Friday, June 26, 2026, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1440 Lakeview Drive, Pocatello, Idaho 83201. Interment will follow at 2:00 p.m., at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery, 2651 Cromwell Lane, Blackfoot, Idaho 83221.
