Stephen Hammon Telford

Stephen Hammon Telford, 70, passed away on May 24, 2026, at his home in Nampa, Idaho.

He was born November 5, 1955, in Bountiful Utah to Don Richard and Josie Hammon Telford. The family moved to Idaho Falls, Idaho in 1960 with subsequent moves to Soda Springs, Idaho, and then eventually to Firth, Idaho, where Steve graduated from high school with honors. He was an outstanding athlete participating in football, baseball and basketball.

He attended Ricks College (BYU Idaho) and then served for two years as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Nova Scotia, Canada.

Upon his return from his mission, he attended Brigham Young University where he obtained a degree in finance and business. Having a desire to obtain a law degree, he attended The University of Idaho in Moscow where he received a Juris Doctorate degree.

Steve had three children, Jared, Elizabeth and James. He also had two step-children, Cameron and Kylie.

Steve founded Telford Law & AP Consultants renowned for crafting tailored estate plans and asset protection structures. He was a member of the Idaho State Bar Association, and the Shoshone Bannock Tribal Bar Association. He was affiliated with the Offshore Institute and served in leadership roles for the Eastern Idaho Estate Planning Council and has been a frequent lecturer on a variety of topics. He practiced law for over 40 years and was recognized as one of the top 20 attorneys in Idaho.

Steve had a passion and deep love for the outdoors, particularly Yellowstone Park. He was an expert skier, outdoorsman, fisherman and canoeist. Steve’s sons and daughter developed a love and appreciation of the outdoors thanks to him. Steve loved to travel the world especially with his family. One of his favorite destinations was the Cook Islands.

Steve held a profound, unwavering love for his children. He was thrilled to be a dad, and his grown children all have wonderful memories of him because he took the time to engage with them in their sports and activities. He loved every second of it. Being a grandpa and dad meant the world to Steve.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents Don and Josie Telford and a beloved brother-in-law, Scott Halverson.

He is survived by his three brothers and one sister; Rick (Patty) Telford, Dave (Cindy) Telford, Wayne (Cindy) Telford and Vicky Halverson.

He is also survived by his two sons; Jared Telford (Nikki), James Telford (Phoebe) and daughter, Elizabeth Johnston (Daniel), also including three grandchildren; Jolene Josie Telford, Atlas Ekko Johnston and Amelia Charlotte Telford.
