(DENVER) — For the second straight year, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish are headed to the national title game. Notre Dame (35-3) knocked off Connecticut (33-5) on Sunday 83-75 in overtime for a matchup with Baylor on Tuesday night.
Both Skylar Diggins and Brittany Mallory came up big in overtime to send Huskies’ head coach Geno Auriemma and his team packing.
“They just made some huge shots,” said Auriemma. “Brittany Mallory made two huge shots and that’s who we wanted to shoot the ball and God Bless her, she stepped up and made shots.”
Mallory hit two huge 3-pointers in overtime and Diggins scored 19 in the victory.
“We didn’t want this to be our last game,” said Mallory. “We dug deep and we fought. I’m just so proud of this team.”
Notre Dame was beaten by Texas A&M in last year’s title game.
