At a news conference Wednesday, police said a man shot and killed four people before he was also found dead, according to ABC News affiliate KNXV-TV in Phoenix.  They did not confirm that the shooter’s death was a suicide. The gunman’s motive is also unknown.

Sources say Jason J.T. Ready, a candidate for Pinal County Sheriff and former neo-Nazi, was among the five fatalities, but authorities have not confirmed whether he was the gunman or a victim.  Sgt. Bill Balafas of the Gilbert Police Department said, according to KNXV-TV, that investigators “have no reason to believe that there’s anybody at large as a suspect, that we believe the person that committed these shootings is also dead inside the home.”

Ready once made local headlines as a member of the National Socialist Movement, who advocated the use of violence to stop illegal immigration and drug smugglers at the state’s border.  As the head of the U.S. Border Guard, Ready performed armed patrols in the southern Arizona desert, azcentral.com reports.

At least one person survived the shooting, according to azcentral.com.  The survivor, whose condition is unknown, was being treated at Maricopa Medical Center.
