(KANSAS CITY, Mo.) — Kansas City Chiefs head coach Romeo Crennel stepped down as defensive coordinator on Monday, and promoted linebackers coach Gary Gibbs to the position.
The 65-year-old Crennel had been handling both duties since taking over as interim head coach when Todd Haley was fired late last season.
“I’m going to spend more time with the whole team and less time with the defense, in trying to get this thing right and get this thing turned,” Crennel said. “
The Chiefs fell to 1-7 on the season after losing to the San Diego Chargers this past Thursday, 31-13.
