Postal Worker Killed While Delivering Mail in Maryland

Tyson Jerome Barnette, a 26-year-old letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, was found Saturday around 7 p.m. suffering from multiple gunshot wounds in Landover, Md.

Barnette was pronounced dead at the scene when police arrived.

The U.S. Postal Inspection Agency is investigating the murder alongside the local police department and is offering a $100,000 reward for any information that leads to the arrest of the perpetrator.

“We’re looking for any information that anyone might have about the individual responsible for the killing of the carrier or what may have transpired right before or right after,” Frank Schissler, a U.S. Postal Inspector and public information officer for U.S. Postal Inspection Service Agency, told ABC News.

According to the USPS, any person who kills or attempts to kill any federal officer or employee while they are on official duties could face the death penalty.
