Virginia to Fight Ban on Same-Sex Marriage

Ji?í Flögel/Thinkstock(RICHMOND, Va.) — Virginia is gearing up for a fight against its state laws banning same-sex nuptials.
Seven years ago, voters in the Old Dominion overwhelmingly approved a ban on gay marriage. But now, a month after a new Democratic administration took office, Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring is reversing state policy.
Herring is scheduled to file a brief Thursday morning supporting same-sex couples who want to strike down the ban. Oral arguments are expected to begin next week.
