The New York Times reports that Kenneth Feinberg, the lawyer put in charge of the compensation fund decided to extend the claim submission deadline to Jan. 31, 2015. The deadline has previously been Dec. 31, 2014.

Feinberg said that efforts to notify eligible claimants have been mostly successful, with notices sent to more than four million individuals.

The latest supplemental notices are being sent to 850,000 newly registered owners or those who recently changed their registration or address. As a result, the deadline to file a claim was pushed back one month to allow those owners time to file.

The company has received 2,105 claims including 217 claims involving deaths.
