The order dated Dec. 12 says that Dr. Lawrence Egbert, 87, did not dispute that he acted as an “exit guide” for the six patients when he served as medical director for the Final Exit Network.

The state document says that each patient died of helium inhalation, and called Egbert’s actions “unprofessional conduct.”

The 87-year-old told ABC News affiliate WMAR-TV he has helped about 100 people end their life since 1983, but hasn’t been involved in any assisted suicides since 2009.

Assisted suicide is legal in the United States in Oregon, Washington and Vermont.
