City of Pocatello partners with social media site Nextdoor

POCATELLO — The city of Pocatello is teaming up with Nextdoor as another way to connect with residents.
The free neighbor-to-neighbor and citywide social media platform will allow the city of Pocatello’s departments to share information across the city as well as to specific neighborhoods around the Gate City.
“With its ability to target individual neighborhoods, Nextdoor will allow us to get information to a very localized group of people,” said Logan McDougall, Public Information Officer. “For example, someone who lives on Bench Road might not necessarily want to know about the road construction happening on Grant Avenue. But, the person who lives on Grant will definitely want to know what is going on.”
Through Nextdoor, the city’s departments will be able to relay important news, updates, programs, events, or emergency notifications to the relevant group of people.
On the platform, residents can create private neighborhood websites to share information on topics and issues that matter to the neighborhood. The online neighborhoods are established and self-managed and the City will not be able to access residents’ websites, contact information, or content.
