Early morning explosion, fire destroys motorhome near Fort Hall

FORT HALL — An explosion and a motorhome fire near Fort Hall and Chubbuck awakened nearby residents early Tuesday morning and prompted a response from two fire departments.
North Bannock Fire District crews were dispatched at approximately 4:06 a.m. to the area of U.S. Highway 91 and Reservation Road following reports of a motorhome on fire.
North Bannock Fire Chief Brian Curtis said the first crews arrived to find the motorhome fully engulfed in flames. Although no buildings were threatened, the fire burned in close proximity to an Idaho Power substation.
Firefighters from the North Bannock Fire District and Fort Hall Fire quickly brought the blaze under control and extinguished the fire.
No one was inside the motorhome at the time of the fire, although residents in the area say it had been parked there for a little more than a week and appeared occupied during that time.
The Bannock County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene, along with Idaho Power personnel.
The motorhome was declared a total loss. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
