Avril Lavigne Says She’ll Be ‘Healthier’ After Lyme Disease Fight

Avril Lavigne Says She’ll Be ‘Healthier’ After Lyme Disease Fight Peter Kramer/NBC(NEW YORK) -- After revealing not long ago that she was incapacitated for months with Lyme disease, Avril Lagivne is now optimistic about the future. "I believe that I will come out of this healthier and stronger than I was before," she said on Thursday's Good Morning America. "I've gained a lot of perspective on my life. I've never had so much down time in my life, so it’s been good in that sense and I'm really just choosing to look at the positives." Avril began feeling ill while on tour last April. Doctors told her it was just dehydration and exhaustion, but she said she knew it was more than that. The singer called the search for her diagnosis "unacceptable" and "frustrating." "I went from doctor to doctor for about eight months until I found somebody that had the knowledge of Lyme disease and the experience of treating it," Avril explained. "I actually knew I had it the whole time, probably since the summer, and was just up against a lot of doctors telling me, 'You're crazy.' Some of them were like, 'It doesn’t exist.'" She added, "I was like, 'But this is happening to me.'" After receiving the diagnosis, which Avril believes she got from a tick bite last spring, the singer was bedridden for five months in her Ontario home. Avril kept a low profile during her recovery, sending a tweet to a concerned fan on Twitter in December and then publicly revealing her Lyme disease in an interview that was published earlier this month in People magazine.  Now the singer is back on the music scene with her song "Fly," which will be featured during the 2015 Special Olympics World Games July 25-August 2 in Los Angeles. "It’s just about inner strength and courage," Avril said of the song, which she wrote a few years ago before partnering with the Special Olympics. "This song took on a whole new meaning for me during the time that I've been sick, which was pretty magical." Avril debuted the music video for "Fly" Thursday on GMA. "I wanted the athletes to be the stars of the video and, just like the message of the song, to show the world that they can overcome the challenges and that everyone is meant to shine," she said. The song is available now on iTunes and all the net proceeds of "Fly" will go to Special Olympics, according to Avril. Follow @ABCNewsRadio Copyright © 2015, ABC Radio. All rights reserved.

Kim Kardashian Removed from Photo on Religious Website

Kim Kardashian Removed from Photo on Religious Website ABC/Randy Holmes(JERUSALEM) — Fans of Kim Kardashian love her sexy style and take-charge attitude, but that may be the very reason one Israeli website decided to essentially airbrush her out of a news story on her visit to Jerusalem. The editors of one ultra-Orthodox news website decided Kardashian wasn't kosher enough to appear in a story they did about her dinner with Jerusalem's mayor. The religious site Kikar HaShabbat removed Kardashian from a group photo with her husband, Kanye West, and the mayor, not just once, but twice. An insert of the restaurant bill covers her in one spot; in another she's pixelated into a fuzzy mass. Some ultra-Orthodox sites refuse to post images of any woman, not just non-Orthodox or non-Jewish women, citing issues of religious modesty.Kim and Kanye arrived in Israel earlier in the week. Their 22-month-old daughter, North West, was baptized at St. James Cathedral in the Armenian Quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem Monday.Follow @ABCNewsRadio Copyright © 2015, ABC Radio. Shelly Sterling Awarded $2.6 Million in Suit Against V. Stiviano

Shelly Sterling Awarded $2.6 Million in Suit Against V. Stiviano 5/11/14 - In an ABC News exclusive, Barbara Walters sat down with Shelley Sterling. Photo: ABC/ Ida Mae Astute(LOS ANGELES) -- Shelly Sterling, the wife of billionaire Donald Sterling, the embattled former owner of the Los Angeles Clippers who was forced to step down for racist remarks his former companion surreptitiously recorded, has won her lawsuit against that woman, V. Stiviano. In the lawsuit, which argued that Donald Sterling, 80, had showered V. Stiviano with gifts paid for with the couple's shared assets, Shelly Sterling had requested that Stiviano give it all back, from charity donations to a $1.8 million duplex.Shelly Sterling claimed Stiviano had seduced and manipulated her 80-year-old husband of 60 years, who she said suffered from the "onset of dementia."A judge ruled Tuesday in Shelly Sterling's favor, ordering Stiviano to pay back $2.6 million in gifts that she'd received from Donald Sterling during the two-year relationship. Stiviano's lawyers had reportedly argued that the Sterlings were separated at the time.In April 2014, the NBA handed Donald Sterling a lifetime ban and a $2.5 million fine for his remarks about African-Americans that were made public thanks to the leaked audio recordings.Stiviano, who was on the receiving end of Sterling's rant on the leaked tapes and describes herself as black and Mexican, told ABC News' Barbara Walters in a May 2014 interview that she had recorded their conversations and shared them with friends. She maintained, however, that a friend had leaked the audio. She also denied having a romantic relationship with Donald Sterling."I'm Mr. Sterling's everything," she said during that interview. "I'm his confidante, his best friend, his silly rabbit."In a separate Walters interview in May 2014, Shelly Sterling discussed the legal action against Stiviano, which had been well under way before the recordings were released."Donald bought her three cars -- a Ferrari, two Bentleys. ... Jewelry, many things," she said in that interview. "And I felt I wanted my 50 percent back."According to the ruling, Stiviano not only has to pay back the more than $400,000 spent on three luxury cars -- two of which she has since sold -- but also $430,000 in cash payments. She'll also have to surrender the home she was gifted and still lives in. Stiviano's attorney Mac Nehoray said that the defense team is, "very disappointed," stating, "Judges are supposed to interpret the law, not make them." He also said that Stiviano would appeal the ruling. Follow @ABCNewsRadio Copyright © 2015, ABC Radio. All rights reserved.

Kelsey Grammer Explains Why He Felt Guilty for His Sister’s Murder

Kelsey Grammer Explains Why He Felt Guilty for His Sister’s Murder Photo by: Lloyd Bishop/NBC(NEW YORK) -- Last year, Kelsey Grammer said that he forgave the man who murdered his sister 40 years ago. He's also forgiven himself. “I know a lot of people who’ve lost their siblings and blame themselves," he said in a new interview with Vanity Fair. "It’s hard to explain. It’s not rational. But it happens anyway." In 1975, the actor's younger sister Karen, then 18 and living in Colorado, was abducted and killed by Freddie Glenn, who was convicted and sentenced to life in prison. Grammer, 60, told a Colorado parole board last July his inability to "protect" his younger sister "very nearly destroyed" him. He also added that while he understood that Glenn felt remorse for the crimes, he did not think that he should be released from prison. "I believe the gift of life and freedom he took from my sister precludes him from ever being allowed to enjoy that gift for himself," he explained to Vanity Fair. "He took her future from her with no regard for her whatsoever. He assumed he had a right to do so. He assumed she was his property, and that the precious gift God gave her was his to take." The Frasier actor, now heading to Broadway for Finding Neverland, said that while his sister's death is still painful, he has begun to heal. However, he added, that the tragedies he endured have helped him appreciate what he has. “That every one of us is going to experience some terrible loss. I just got a big dose. For every story you hear that’s tragic, there’s another that’s equally tragic or more so. I think you come to look at it as part of life.” Follow @ABCNewsRadio Copyright © 2015, ABC Radio. Uzo Aduba Says “Orange Is the New Black” Season 4 Is a Go

Uzo Aduba Says “Orange Is the New Black” Season 4 Is a Go Jill Greenberg for Netflix(NEW YORK) -- It's official. Orange Is the New Black is getting a fourth season to debut in 2016, Netflix announced Wednesday.  Uzo Aduba, who won an Emmy Award for her portrayal of Suzanne "Crazy Eyes" Warren in the dramedy, understands why the show was picked up for another season, and why it's so successful. "I think people see a lot of themselves in it. And I think people find themselves surprisingly relating to a lot of these characters," she said on Wednesday's Good Morning America. "Because the story that our creator Jenji [Kohan] is telling, it's not just exclusively about inmates," Aduba continued. "These are people's mothers, daughters, sisters, friends, neighbors, employees, and people can relate to those struggles and the challenges of just trying to make it through every day. And I think also it's this idea that sometimes good people -- good people -- can make mistakes." Aduba added that she loves portraying her emotionally- and mentally-challenged character because "she's never afraid to go all the way to just really be vulnerable and open herself up regardless of what the cost is. And that's...exciting to play because that's just so freeing." Season three of Orange Is the New Black will be available on Netflix June 12. Follow @ABCNewsRadio Copyright © 2015, ABC Radio. “Scandal” Creator Shonda Rhimes Says It’s ‘About Time’ TV Becomes More Diverse

“Scandal” Creator Shonda Rhimes Says It’s ‘About Time’ TV Becomes More Diverse ABC/Todd Wawrychuk(NEW YORK) — In a time when Deadline pens an article that argues perhaps TV is now too diverse, Shonda Rhimes is also sounding off about diversity on the small screen."Literally everybody’s starring in a pilot. I think that’s wonderful. Part of me thinks, 'Well that’s wildly racist of all the networks to suddenly decide that the best way to get a show on the air is to just throw a black woman on it.' Yet part of me feels like, 'For God’s sake, it’s about time! If they’re going to be stupid, let’s use their stupidity,'" she says in the May issue of Essence magazine. On the cover, Rhimes is joined by Debbie Allen, Selma director Ava DuVernay, Being Mary Jane creator Mara Brock Akil and Issa Rae.  Rhimes continues that she doesn't think more diversity on TV is a "trend.""It’s an economic fact," she clarifies in the issue, which hits newsstands on Friday. "There are more people of color in this country than there ever have been before. We’re going to reach a tipping point, and I think it’s 2018, in which the number of young people in this country becomes more than the number of young people not of color in this country."Rhimes continues, "You can’t ignore what’s happening economically, when you put a show like Empire on television and it’s doing bigger numbers than a show like The Big Bang Theory. It’s just clear that there is an economic force and the corporations can’t deny that. When the shows start doing bigger numbers than what they think are going to be their big ten shows, it becomes really hard to suggest that it’s a trend."Rhimes currently owns Thursday nights on ABC with her shows Grey's Anatomy and Scandal. Previously, How to Get Away with Murder -- which she produces -- also aired on Thursdays before ending its first-season run earlier this year.
