“Treme” Star Rob Brown Settles Racial Profiling Suit Against Macy’s, New York City

iStock Editorial/Thinkstock(NEW YORK) — Rob Brown, best known for his role as trumpet player Delmond Lambreaux on the HBO series Treme, is settling his racial profiling lawsuits against Macy’s and the City of New York, according to the New York Daily News.In court papers obtained by the newspaper, Manhattan Federal Judge Lorna Schofield writes, “The court has been informed that the parties have reached a settlement in principle.”The 30-year-old actor claimed he was handcuffed, “paraded” through the Macy’s flagship store in New York City’s Herald Square, and detained in June of last year after being accused of using a fake credit card to buy his mother a $1,300 watch. In his complaint, Brown alleged false imprisonment, negligent training and civil rights violations. He was seeking unspecified money damages and a court order forcing Macy’s and the NYPD to stop the alleged practice of targeting minorities who shop at high-end stores.A spokeswoman for Macy’s tells the Daily News, “The lawsuits by various plaintiffs who alleged racial profiling by Macy’s have been settled in principle. We are making no further comment.”The spokeswoman adds, “Our company strictly prohibits discrimination of any kind and has zero tolerance for racial profiling.”A lawyer for the city says, “A settlement has been reached in principle, but the details are still being finalized.”Brown’s lawyer, Douglas Wigdor, confirmed the report, but declined to comment on the terms of the settlement.

Actor James Garner Dead at 86

Actor James Garner Dead at 86

Mark Mainz/Getty Images(LOS ANGELES) — James Garner, the actor who helped re-define the western and detective genres on television, died Saturday at his California home. He was 86.
Garner first gained fame in the late 1950s on the TV comedy series Maverick. At a time when traditional Westerns were a staple of primetime TV fare, Garner’s wisecracking Bret Maverick — a gambler who’d rather run than fight but who could outdraw most gunfighters — was a tremendous hit, and made Garner a star.
Garner left Maverick after three seasons and built a film career, starring in both comedies and dramas, including the classic 1963 war drama The Great Escape and two hit romantic comedies opposite Doris Day.
In 1974, Garner returned to television in the comedy-drama The Rockford Files. Garner’s take on Jim Rockford, a Los Angeles detective who lived with his father in a run-down mobile home and drove a Pontiac Firebird, was an even bigger hit than Maverick, airing for six seasons and earning Garner a best actor Emmy in 1977. Like Maverick did with Westerns, The Rockford Files in many ways redefined the TV private detective show, and paved the way for similar hits, such as Magnum P.I.
Garner continued to switch between TV and film in his later years, and was nominated for an Oscar in 1985 for starring opposite Sally Field in the romantic comedy Murphy’s Romance.
His later films included 1994′s Maverick, with Mel Gibson playing the title role and Garner starring as his father.
Garner also appeared in 2000′s Space Cowboys opposite Clint Eastwood, 2004′s The Notebook, and had a role on the TV sitcom 8 Simple Rules.
Garner’s autobiography, The Garner Files: A Memoir, was published in 2011. In 2005, Garner received the Screen Actors Guild Lifetime Achievement Award.

Adam Levine Marries Supermodel Behati Prinsloo

Adam Levine Marries Supermodel Behati Prinsloo

Stephen Lovekin/Getty Images for The Weinstein Company(LOS ANGELES) — It’s official — Adam Levine and Behati Prinsloo are married.
The rocker tied the knot with the Victoria’s Secret model on Saturday at Flora Farms in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, according to E! News.
Prinsloo’s bridesmaids included fellow model Coco Rocha, according to E! News. In lieu of gifts, the couple asked that guests donate to Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles.
They’ll spend their honeymoon in South Africa, reports E! News.
After dating a slew of supermodels before Prinsloo, the Maroon 5 frontman and The Voice coach popped the question last July in Los Angeles.
Earlier this summer, Levine told Live with Kelly and Michael that he got a little “woozy” when he asked Prinsloo to be his wife.
“You can’t be confident about it,” he said. “I’m a confident person, but I got on that knee and everything changed immediately.”
He said he even lost his balance and got down on both knees, not just one.
Prinsloo said “yes” and maybe it was because of the ring Levine picked out for her.
“[The ring is] from the 1930s. It’s vintage and he picked it out,” the model told ABC News last year.
Levine, 35, and Prinsloo, 25, started dating in 2012.

“American Ninja Warrior” Finalist Kacy Catanzaro Is Shocked By Fame

Peter Larsen/NBC(NEW YORK) — After becoming the first woman to make the finals of American Ninja Warrior, Kacy Catanzaro became a celebrity almost overnight.
Nobody was more surprised than she was.
“I had no idea how many people would care so much about it,” she told People. “I’m getting messages from my friends saying telling me that I am trending on Facebook and Twitter and that my video has 4 million views. It’s amazing. My followers have skyrocketed 30,000 plus more in just a couple of days.”
Catanzaro, who appeared on the show once before, blew away viewers by mastering each obstacle of the show’s grueling course. Though she doesn’t know what the finals have in store, she feels ready for whatever comes her way.
“The ring toss was something new this year and it was definitely a challenge, but I just took it slow and tried to stay calm,” she explained of her strategy. “I just kept going and tried to stay calm and it was really helpful. I believed in myself and went for it.”
No matter what happens in the future, the lifelong gymnast is happy to have inspired so many fans with her performance thus far.
“Being able to get the opportunity to be in that spotlight and put such a positive message out has been so amazing,” she said. “It was a surreal moment.”

Casey Kasem’s Body Is Missing, Daughter Says

Michael Tullberg/Getty Images(LOS ANGELES) — The late Casey Kasem’s body is missing, more than a month after the radio icon’s death, according to his daughter.A spokesperson for Kerri Kasem confirmed to ABC News that the legend’s adult children have yet to see his body. Casey Kasem died on June 15 at 82 years old after suffering from a form of dementia. An autopsy has also not been performed yet, the family said.Jean Kasem, the radio personality’s second wife, had been embroiled in a conflict with his children from a previous marriage over her husband’s medical care for months before he died. She collected the body within 72 hours of his death.Kerri Kasem was informed Thursday that Casey Kasem’s body was no longer at the mortuary, where it remained for a month.Kerri and two more of Kasem’s adult children fought Jean in court for control of his health care leading up to his death. Early last month, a judge ruled that his care would be in the control of Kerri, not Jean. Shortly after, he was moved to hospice.”This is the most difficult decision that a judge or an attorney can make. Mr. Kasem is dying and Mr. Kasem has expressed his desire to die peacefully and in comfort,” Troy Martin, an attorney for Kerri Kasem told ABC News in June.A rep for Jean Kasem has yet to respond to a request for comment.

Why Tim McGraw ‘Swatted’ a Fan in Atlanta

ABC/Eric Gebhart(LOS ANGELES) — Tim McGraw may have had a good reason for getting aggressive with a fan.A video posted by TMZ shows the country singer wading into the crowd during a show earlier this week in Atlanta, when one fan got too grabby.”At the end of the night during the encore, Tim was singing out in the audience and someone firmly grabbed onto his leg and wouldn’t let go as he was moving through the crowd,” his rep told ABC News. “He instinctively swatted to try and keep them from ripping his jeans — which they succeeded at doing! — and so he could get to more fans who were trying to slap hands with him before the end of the show.”The rep added that McGraw, 47, didn’t realize who grabbed his leg. “[He] was simply trying to keep his pants from being torn,” his rep said.McGraw is in the middle of an international tour, which extends through November of this year. His album, Sundown Heaven Town, is due out in September.

Blake Lively Opens Up About Husband Ryan Reynolds

Blake Lively Opens Up About Husband Ryan Reynolds

Photo by Jean Catuffe/FilmMagic(NEW YORK) –  He may not have been snapped alongside his wife, but the August issue of Vogue is as much about Ryan Reynolds as it is about cover star Blake Lively.Sitting down with the magazine to promote her lifestyle website, Preserve, which will launch later this month, Lively opened up about her relationship with husband and cited him as an essential influence on her most recent venture.”He’s a part of it because everything we do in life we do together,” Lively told writer Jonathan Van Meter. “If I’m working on a movie, he helps me with my character; I do the same with him. Picking out a coffee table. What we’re going to eat. He’s a beautiful writer — he’s written a lot of stuff for us. And he’s got a great barometer and he knows me, so he will tell me if it’s not as good as it can be.”That characteristic frankness is clearly a trait that Lively has picked up on. The budding entrepreneur made tacit mention of Reynolds’ previous marriage to Scarlett Johansson, saying: “The fact that he lived so much before we got together, he’s the exact realized person that he should be. And so I get to share my life with the person he’s become, and we get to grow from there.”Given that the article makes frequent mention of her status as a “celebrity homemaker,” it’s no surprise that Lively has babies on the brain. And while Lively is focused on her forthcoming venture for now, which the article in fact compares to a newborn, she is confident that Reynolds is “going to be a great father and leader and patriarch.””He’s so meant to be all of those things,” she said. The actor has already mastered the easy-going attitude that parenthood requires. Lively told Vogue that her husband has helped her see beauty in imperfection and accident. To wit: At their wedding outside Charleston, South Carolina, two years ago, an errant sparkler left “a big burn mark” on the front of her dress.”It was just so heartbreaking to me,” Lively told the magazine. But Reynolds termed it “beautiful”– an unlikely memento of the special day.”Now that’s my favorite part of the dress,” Lively said.

Jason Biggs Apologizes for ‘Insensitive’ Joke About Crash of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17

ABC/Jeff Neira(NEW YORK) — Jason Biggs has apologized for a joke he tweeted about the Malaysia Airlines plane that crashed on Thursday.  The Orange Is the New Black star wrote, “Anyone wanna buy my Malaysian Airlines frequent flier miles?” The quip elicited many negative comments on Twitter. However, the 36-year-old actor initially appeared as though he wouldn’t back down.Biggs responded, “Hey all you ‘too soon’ a**holes- it’s a f***ing joke. You don’t have to think it’s funny, or even be on my twitter page at all.” He added, “The idea that I wouldn’t have any empathy 4 the victims or their families because I make a joke is absolutely ridiculous. U know that, right?”By Thursday evening, it seemed the actor had a change of heart. Biggs tweeted, “Hey all — ok, so, I am deleting my previous tweets. People were offended, and that was not my intent. Sorry to those of you that were.”Biggs added, “This is obviously a horrible tragedy, and everyone-including myself- is sad and angry about it. Sending positive thoughts to the victims and their families. P.S. No one is making me send these tweets- I simply understand that my comments might have come off as insensitive and ill-timed. For that, I apologize.”Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 was carrying 283 passengers and 15 crew members, heading from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, when it crashed in eastern Ukraine, about 25 miles from the Russian border. There were no signs of any survivors.Follow @ABCNewsRadio Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio

“Two and a Half Men” to Feature Gay Wedding During Its Final Season

Michael Yarish/Warner Bros.(LOS ANGELES) — Two people will tie the knot during the 12th and final season of CBS’ Two and a Half Men, but it’s not who you think. CBS Entertainment president Nina Tassler confirms to ABC News Radio that Ashton Kutcher’s Walden will pop the question to Jon Cryer’s Alan.Tassler confirmed that Walden will have a health scare that causes him to make the commitment.”Walden, in having kind of an existential crisis, he has a near-death experience and he is evaluating the meaning of life. He wants to adopt a child and it is particularly challenging to do so as a single male. So he decides that he and Alan should get married and they will adopt a child as a gay couple,” Tassler noted Thursday, while at the Television Critics Association summer press tour in Beverly Hills.ABC News Radio asked Tassler whether there has been any discussion regarding bringing back former star Charlie Sheen for the show’s swan song. She simply answered, “Not at this time, no.” Of course, Sheen left Two and a Half Men in 2011 on acrimonious terms, having chastised creator Chuck Lorre and others involved with the sitcom. Sheen, who now stars in the FX comedy Anger Management, has since attempted to make amends with Lorre. Two and a Half Men’s final season premieres Oct. 30.Follow @ABCNewsRadio Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio

CBS Exec Discusses Late-Night Schedule, “The Big Bang Theory” Contract Talks

Sonja Flemming/CBS(LOS ANGELES) — At the Television Critics Association summer press tour in Beverly Hills on Thursday, CBS Entertainment president Nina Tassler talked about the network’s plans for its late-night schedule, now that David Letterman is retiring from Late Show in 2015, and Stephen Colbert is stepping in. Tassler said she’s in very early talks with The Colbert Report host regarding the details of the transition. She remarked, “He does want an interview format, we’ve had some conversations, will he have a band, will he not have a band.”Tassler also addressed Craig Ferguson’s impending departure from Late Late Show this December, hinting the program’s format could change. She said, “This is an opportunity for us to look at all different kinds of hosts, not only from the comic world, but maybe there’s the political world.” There is no timetable for a decision on the Late Late Show’s future.Elsewhere on the CBS front, Tassler discussed the fact that the main stars of The Big Bang Theory are not yet under contract for next season. Jim Parsons, Johnny Galecki, Kaley Cuoco, Simon Helberg and Kunal Nayyar will likely be working without a contract if they don’t work out a deal soon.  However, Tassler says, “We’re feeling very confident that everything will work out.  These deals manage to get done somehow miraculously.”Follow @ABCNewsRadio Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio

Movie Review: “Sex Tape” (Rated R)

Movie Review: “Sex Tape” (Rated R)

Sony/Columbia(NEW YORK) — On a whim, married couple Jay (Jason Segel) and Annie (Cameron Diaz) try to spice up their formerly formidable sex life (“formidable” is probably an understatement) by making a sex video on Jay’s new iPad.  Annie somewhat graphically describes their sex life in the prologue, disguised as an entry on her popular mommy blog: two kids and a couple of terabytes worth of adult responsibility have made sex nearly impossible.  It’s been so long, they’ve nearly forgotten how to do it.  They can’t even kiss without banging their teeth.   It’s a somewhat adorable scene that’s at times hilarious, though at other times falls flat.  Even so, with the aid of some alcohol, Jay and Annie loosen up and decide to try every position in The Joy of Sex while the iPad records their three-hour sexcapade.  Annie has just one condition: delete the video in the morning.  So, what do you think Jay does?  Actually, I can tell you what he didn’t do: he didn’t delete the video. Here’s the rub.  Jay is constantly upgrading, buying new iPads and when he does, he gives away the old ones as gifts.  He also uses his iPad to sync all of his digital devices — iPads, phones, computers, all of them.  In other words, whatever media he puts on his device, eventually winds up on all of those other platforms.  Ruh-roh. Now Jay and Annie are faced with the task of getting back all of those synced devices before anyone sees the sex video.  The list of potential viewers includes Annie parents, the mailman, their best friends, and Hank (Rob Lowe), the head of the company that’s considering buying Annie’s mommy blog. Nobody watches a sex tape for the plot, but this movie should’ve had a better one, and a smarter script. There are some head-scratching moments as Jay and Annie are presented as hip and intelligent, yet make decisions that completely contradict that.  In other words, if they were Harry and Lloyd from Dumb and Dumber, some of the gags would’ve been funnier. Having said that, there’s plenty to work with in Sex Tape, thanks to Diaz and Segel, both of whom are both willing and able to, literally, let it all hang out.  There’s nothing either of these actors wouldn’t do for a laugh and we, the audience, benefit from their generosity and commitment. Three-and-a-half out of five stars.Follow @ABCNewsRadio Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio

Emma Stone Reveals How Her Late Grandfather Haunts Her

ABC/Fred Lee(NEW YORK) — Emma Stone revealed on the Late Show with David Letterman that her grandfather haunts her, but in a nice way.Promoting her new Woody Allen-directed movie, Magic in the Moonlight, in which her character, Sophie, talks to spirits, she told Letterman on Wednesday that she has “had a few” magical instances where she’s dealt with ghosts.”Things materializing,” the 25-year-old actress and girlfriend to Amazing Spider-Man star Andrew Garfield told the audience. “There’s a long family history with quarters, my grandfather leaves quarters. It’s just amazing. It’s him. It’s absolutely him!”The actress added that she, in fact, has never met her grandfather — but she knows it’s him that leaves her the money.”It’s such a long story,” she told Letterman. “You’d have to go to commercial five times and roll to a clip and come back, and I’d still be telling the story, but it’s him.”Stone was on Good Morning America on Wednesday morning and said working with Allen was “incredible,” and she is currently teaming up with him again. “Right now, we are shooting in Rhode Island,” she said.

Kelly Ripa Declares ‘Botox Has Changed My Life’

Charles Sykes/Bravo(NEW YORK) — Kelly Ripa has a pretty simple beauty routine.
When asked about her favorite products she only named one.”Botox,” she told Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live. “That’s pretty much it.”Ripa, 43, said she spends so much time in hair and makeup for her talk show-hosting job that she doesn’t feel “ritualistic” about her beauty routine. However, since she began getting Botox treatment, she said, getting ready to go out has been quicker.”It’s cut my getting ready time in half,” she said. “I’m not advocating for it one way or the other. I’m just saying Botox changed my life.”So how does the talk show host avoid looking constantly surprised? Moderation, she said.”The key to everything is knowing what you look like and being a minimalist,” she said. “Your cheeks are not supposed to block out your eyes when you smile!”

Cory Monteith’s Mom ‘Couldn’t Look at a Picture’ of Him Until Recently

Eddy Chen/FOX(NEW YORK) — It has been a year since Glee’s Cory Monteith died of a drug overdose. His mother, Ann McGregor, is now speaking publicly for the first time about the son she called “baby bear.””I’m beginning to accept it,” she told ABC News in a segment that aired on Thursday’s Good Morning America. “The loss is horrendous. Until three days ago I couldn’t look at a picture of Cory. So there’s been progress.”Monteith, who played the character Finn Hudson on Fox’s Glee, was found dead in his Vancouver, British Columbia hotel room July 13, 2013. The actor died of a mixture of alcohol and intravenous heroin, according to the coroner’s report. He was 31.McGregor is still unable to talk about the night she found out about her son’s death, but did reveal that his then-girlfriend, Glee co-star Lea Michele, is still in touch with her via texts and emails.”She’s hurting, too,” said McGregor. “I mean, you see the sadness. I know her pain.”McGregor said that her son started to get into trouble with drugs as a teenage, overdosing at 15.
“He had a lot of emotional things he was trying to figure out — lot of it was he really wanted a relationship with his father,” she explained. “I think when a child gets invalidated they keep reaching even harder. They want to find out why.”Monteith’s father, Joe Monteith, has been estranged from the family for many years and was not invited to his son’s memorial. Monteith never showed any interest in Cory’s life until the last two years, when Cory became successful, McGregor said.Asked what advice she had for the mothers of other stars who are facing similar problems, McGregor replied: “I don’t think we have power to change the choices they’re making. I think with the kind of connection Cory and I had, if we couldn’t prevent that situation, I don’t have the answer. What could I say to them? Live every moment. Grab the second.”
