Shelly Sterling Awarded $2.6 Million in Suit Against V. Stiviano

Shelly Sterling Awarded $2.6 Million in Suit Against V. Stiviano 5/11/14 - In an ABC News exclusive, Barbara Walters sat down with Shelley Sterling. Photo: ABC/ Ida Mae Astute(LOS ANGELES) -- Shelly Sterling, the wife of billionaire Donald Sterling, the embattled former owner of the Los Angeles Clippers who was forced to step down for racist remarks his former companion surreptitiously recorded, has won her lawsuit against that woman, V. Stiviano. In the lawsuit, which argued that Donald Sterling, 80, had showered V. Stiviano with gifts paid for with the couple's shared assets, Shelly Sterling had requested that Stiviano give it all back, from charity donations to a $1.8 million duplex.Shelly Sterling claimed Stiviano had seduced and manipulated her 80-year-old husband of 60 years, who she said suffered from the "onset of dementia."A judge ruled Tuesday in Shelly Sterling's favor, ordering Stiviano to pay back $2.6 million in gifts that she'd received from Donald Sterling during the two-year relationship. Stiviano's lawyers had reportedly argued that the Sterlings were separated at the time.In April 2014, the NBA handed Donald Sterling a lifetime ban and a $2.5 million fine for his remarks about African-Americans that were made public thanks to the leaked audio recordings.Stiviano, who was on the receiving end of Sterling's rant on the leaked tapes and describes herself as black and Mexican, told ABC News' Barbara Walters in a May 2014 interview that she had recorded their conversations and shared them with friends. She maintained, however, that a friend had leaked the audio. She also denied having a romantic relationship with Donald Sterling."I'm Mr. Sterling's everything," she said during that interview. "I'm his confidante, his best friend, his silly rabbit."In a separate Walters interview in May 2014, Shelly Sterling discussed the legal action against Stiviano, which had been well under way before the recordings were released."Donald bought her three cars -- a Ferrari, two Bentleys. ... Jewelry, many things," she said in that interview. "And I felt I wanted my 50 percent back."According to the ruling, Stiviano not only has to pay back the more than $400,000 spent on three luxury cars -- two of which she has since sold -- but also $430,000 in cash payments. She'll also have to surrender the home she was gifted and still lives in. Stiviano's attorney Mac Nehoray said that the defense team is, "very disappointed," stating, "Judges are supposed to interpret the law, not make them." He also said that Stiviano would appeal the ruling. Follow @ABCNewsRadio Copyright © 2015, ABC Radio. All rights reserved.

Kelsey Grammer Explains Why He Felt Guilty for His Sister’s Murder

Kelsey Grammer Explains Why He Felt Guilty for His Sister’s Murder Photo by: Lloyd Bishop/NBC(NEW YORK) -- Last year, Kelsey Grammer said that he forgave the man who murdered his sister 40 years ago. He's also forgiven himself. “I know a lot of people who’ve lost their siblings and blame themselves," he said in a new interview with Vanity Fair. "It’s hard to explain. It’s not rational. But it happens anyway." In 1975, the actor's younger sister Karen, then 18 and living in Colorado, was abducted and killed by Freddie Glenn, who was convicted and sentenced to life in prison. Grammer, 60, told a Colorado parole board last July his inability to "protect" his younger sister "very nearly destroyed" him. He also added that while he understood that Glenn felt remorse for the crimes, he did not think that he should be released from prison. "I believe the gift of life and freedom he took from my sister precludes him from ever being allowed to enjoy that gift for himself," he explained to Vanity Fair. "He took her future from her with no regard for her whatsoever. He assumed he had a right to do so. He assumed she was his property, and that the precious gift God gave her was his to take." The Frasier actor, now heading to Broadway for Finding Neverland, said that while his sister's death is still painful, he has begun to heal. However, he added, that the tragedies he endured have helped him appreciate what he has. “That every one of us is going to experience some terrible loss. I just got a big dose. For every story you hear that’s tragic, there’s another that’s equally tragic or more so. I think you come to look at it as part of life.” Follow @ABCNewsRadio Copyright © 2015, ABC Radio. Uzo Aduba Says “Orange Is the New Black” Season 4 Is a Go

Uzo Aduba Says “Orange Is the New Black” Season 4 Is a Go Jill Greenberg for Netflix(NEW YORK) -- It's official. Orange Is the New Black is getting a fourth season to debut in 2016, Netflix announced Wednesday.  Uzo Aduba, who won an Emmy Award for her portrayal of Suzanne "Crazy Eyes" Warren in the dramedy, understands why the show was picked up for another season, and why it's so successful. "I think people see a lot of themselves in it. And I think people find themselves surprisingly relating to a lot of these characters," she said on Wednesday's Good Morning America. "Because the story that our creator Jenji [Kohan] is telling, it's not just exclusively about inmates," Aduba continued. "These are people's mothers, daughters, sisters, friends, neighbors, employees, and people can relate to those struggles and the challenges of just trying to make it through every day. And I think also it's this idea that sometimes good people -- good people -- can make mistakes." Aduba added that she loves portraying her emotionally- and mentally-challenged character because "she's never afraid to go all the way to just really be vulnerable and open herself up regardless of what the cost is. And that's...exciting to play because that's just so freeing." Season three of Orange Is the New Black will be available on Netflix June 12. Follow @ABCNewsRadio Copyright © 2015, ABC Radio. “Scandal” Creator Shonda Rhimes Says It’s ‘About Time’ TV Becomes More Diverse

“Scandal” Creator Shonda Rhimes Says It’s ‘About Time’ TV Becomes More Diverse ABC/Todd Wawrychuk(NEW YORK) — In a time when Deadline pens an article that argues perhaps TV is now too diverse, Shonda Rhimes is also sounding off about diversity on the small screen."Literally everybody’s starring in a pilot. I think that’s wonderful. Part of me thinks, 'Well that’s wildly racist of all the networks to suddenly decide that the best way to get a show on the air is to just throw a black woman on it.' Yet part of me feels like, 'For God’s sake, it’s about time! If they’re going to be stupid, let’s use their stupidity,'" she says in the May issue of Essence magazine. On the cover, Rhimes is joined by Debbie Allen, Selma director Ava DuVernay, Being Mary Jane creator Mara Brock Akil and Issa Rae.  Rhimes continues that she doesn't think more diversity on TV is a "trend.""It’s an economic fact," she clarifies in the issue, which hits newsstands on Friday. "There are more people of color in this country than there ever have been before. We’re going to reach a tipping point, and I think it’s 2018, in which the number of young people in this country becomes more than the number of young people not of color in this country."Rhimes continues, "You can’t ignore what’s happening economically, when you put a show like Empire on television and it’s doing bigger numbers than a show like The Big Bang Theory. It’s just clear that there is an economic force and the corporations can’t deny that. When the shows start doing bigger numbers than what they think are going to be their big ten shows, it becomes really hard to suggest that it’s a trend."Rhimes currently owns Thursday nights on ABC with her shows Grey's Anatomy and Scandal. Previously, How to Get Away with Murder -- which she produces -- also aired on Thursdays before ending its first-season run earlier this year. It's been picked up for a second season.Follow @ABCNewsRadio Copyright © 2015, ABC Radio. All rights reserved.

Not only has Smollett impressed as an actor, but he's also proven he's a No. 1 singer, as the soundtrack for the show debuted in the top spot.Smollett told ABC Radio at the Summer Sizzle BVI 2015 launch party in New York City that now he's got something else in the works."I'm working on personal music; just writing and recording here and there," he revealed, "but the priority still is the soundtrack for season one.""I'm starting to write [music] for season two and stuff like that. It's a collaborative thing but I'm starting to write my own stuff and then, you know, if it seeps into Empire then great," Smollett said.Smollett added that he's been in touch with Jim Beanz, the musical director for Empire, for early conversations about music for the upcoming season. For now, however, Smollett is enjoying a bit of downtime, as the musical TV show just wrapped up its first season earlier this year. Christina Aguilera Guest Stars on ABC’s “Nashville” Wednesday Night

Christina Aguilera Guest Stars on ABC’s “Nashville” Wednesday Night ABC(NEW YORK) — Christina Aguilera hasn't appeared in a movie since the 2010 film Burlesque, but starting Wednesday night, she's dipping her toe back in the acting waters with a TV role: she'll appear in the next three episodes of ABC's Nashville. In Nashville, Christina plays Jade St. John, the ex-fiancee of former record label boss Jeff Fordham.  "Jade St. John is a pop star, but her first love is in country and she really wants to make a country album," says Christina. "And as she’s passing by town with her tour, she really takes the opportunity to sort of experience Nashville and make some contacts for herself. But really she’s just a huge fan of country and she just wants to dive right in."While she's doing that, Christina says, her character gets involved in the relationship between two of the show's female characters: new mom and star Juliette Barnes, played by Hayden Panettiere, and up-and-coming singer Layla Grant, played by Aubrey Peeples."Jade takes Layla under her wing a little bit, and kind of plays the big sister to her and wanting to encourage her growth and coming up in the business," Christina explains. "And Juliette bullies her a little bit, and Jade steps in and kind of just sees an opportunity to sort of defend Layla and cheer her on. And that causes a little bit of tension between Jade and Juliette. ...Juliette definitely tells me where to go!"Christina says that returning to acting makes her want to do more of it. "It definitely stirs the bug a little bit to get back in it but I’d never do it just to say I’m doing acting," she says. "You know, I really do like to do characters that I can bring something to that I can discover maybe in myself.""Jade definitely makes me discover a new side to who I am and what more I have to offer, even as an artist, crossing into a little bit of experimenting with country," she adds. "So, it’s fun and it’s music and, you know, it’s all love." Christina will cement her country credentials by performing this Sunday night at the Academy of Country Music Awards with country group Rascal Flatts. USA Today reports that the collaboration will include Christina's song, "Shotgun," which she'll sing on Nashville, as well as the Flatts' new single, "Riot." Look for Christina on Nashville Wednesday night on ABC at 10 p.m. ET, and then again on April 22 and April 29. Follow @ABCNewsRadio Copyright © 2015, ABC Radio. All rights reserved.

Last week, with my husband by my side, and with the love and support of family and friends, I underwent a bilateral mastectomy and reconstruction for breast cancer after a diagnosis of invasive lobular carcinoma."She added that she expects to make a full recovery because she caught the cancer early."I have had an underlying condition of LCIS, (lobular carcinoma in situ) which has been vigilantly monitored through yearly mammograms and breast MRIs. A different pathologist found invasive lobular carcinoma. His diagnosis of cancer was confirmed by, yet, another pathologist. The Avengers Assemble on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”

The Avengers Assemble on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” ABC/Randy Holmes(LOS ANGELES) — On Jimmy Kimmel Live! Monday night, Jimmy welcomed Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, and Scarlett Johansson, the stars of the May 1 Marvel Studio film Avengers: Age of Ultron. The stars took part in an A-List game of "telephone" that opened the show, before participating in a group interview, in which Johansson jokingly claimed to have done all of her own motorcycle stunts, even though she was with child at the time they filmed. "Are you crazy?!" she laughed. "I was pregnant!"The actress also lamented wearing a skin-tight "catsuit when you're humongous." It all seemed better than Ruffalo's "man-canceling" leotard, which was used to help transform him via computer magic into The Hulk. Why man-canceling? "It makes you look small everywhere you want to look big, and big everywhere you want to look small," he explained. The cast also chatted with fans on Kimmel's "Wall of America" video screen. One of those fans who popped up with a question was Clark Gregg, who starred with the cast in the original Avengers, and has appeared in virtually every Marvel movie. As far as moviegoers know, however, the Avengers still think his character, Phil Coulson, is dead -- though he's alive and well on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. -- and it seemed his absence made the stars' hearts grow fonder. They went bananas when they saw him on the screen. "Get the f*** over here!" a stunned Ruffalo mouthed, making room on the couch next to him for Gregg to sit. "Where are you?!" Johansson asked. For his part, Downey screamed "Yes!" and fist-pumped.Gregg explained, "Big fan, big fan...I just wondered if any of you would consider working on the small screen. I don't know if you've heard, but it's the golden age of television." Kimmel asked the stars if they'd appear on S.H.I.E.L.D., and after an awkward pause, Evans sarcastically blurted out, "Sure!" and after some cross-talk, Downey jokingly jabbed, "You wouldn't want to be blown off your small screen." Ruffalo told Gregg he's more than eager: "Quit blowing us off!" Dr. Bruce Banner/The Hulk enthused. The gang was also split into two teams for "Avengers Family Feud." Captain America himself, Chris Evans, led Ruffalo and Renner. Downey opposed, joined by Johansson and Hemsworth. After some apparently tequila-based confusion, Downey's team took the victory -- and a tandem bike built and decorated for three superheros. Appropriate for an episode plugging a Marvel movie, the Kimmel episode even featured an after-credits scene. Kimmel, seemingly sitting in his living room, watched the show end, and said, "What? No after-credits scene?!"The camera pulled back to reveal Ant-Man star Paul Rudd was watching with him, wearing an Ant-Man shirt. "That blows," the actor deadpanned, before they started trashing the room. The action didn't end for the stars, however, who decamped from Kimmel's studio and walked across the street to the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles for the movie's world premiere. The scope of the movie was stunning for both series newcomers Elizabeth Olsen, who plays Scarlet Witch, and Paul Bettany, who finally got to suit up as the cybernetic hero Vision after being heard as the voice of JARVIS in the Iron Man movies and the original Avengers. "I've never seen sets like this," the actor explained, "and I've never seen film sets destroyed in the same way that I've seen film sets destroyed on this film."
