Clooney Surprises Fans at NY Comic Con’s Tomorrowland Panel

Photo by Stephen Lovekin/Getty Images for Disney(NEW YORK) -- George Clooney cut his honeymoon short to surprise attendees at New York Comic Con on Thursday. The actor wasn't scheduled to appear at the Javits Center but he joined his co-stars for the Q&A panel for Disney's upcoming movie Tomorrowland. After some gentle ribbing by co-star Hugh Laurie, Clooney took the stage to loud cheers. “Hugh, it is not lost on me that I'm spending my honeymoon at Comic Con,” the newlywed actor joked. He then admitted to the audience that it was his first such event. “Since my Batman, I’d been disinvited from Comic Con," he admitted," referring to his nearly universally panned portrayal of the superhero in 1997's Batman and Robin. "I met Adam West back there, it was like, 'Hey, I’m really sorry...sorry about the nipples on the suit….'"For the record, West is a fan of Clooney's Batman portrayal: nipple suit and all. West told ABC Radio that he reassured Clooney during their Comic-Con meeting. "I said, 'George, you did not kill the Batman franchise, you were a good Batman,' and he said, 'Oh, you were the best,' we had fun," West said. All joking aside, the real business at hand was giving audiences a first look at Tomorrowland. In addition to Clooney and Laurie, the panel included Britt Robertson, Shiloh Nelson, director-producer Brad Bird, and screenwriter-producer Damon Lindelof. They all helped reveal a teaser for the film, which is set for a May 22, 2015 release. The film follows an inventor, played by Clooney, who teams up with a teenage genius, played by Robertson, to uncover the secrets of a mysterious place that exists somewhere in time and space. It's a loose theme-park adaptation, inspired by the futuristic Tomorrowland section of Disneyland and Walt Disney World.

Barbara Walters Reveals She Once Had a Lumpectomy

ABC/BOB D'AMICO(NEW YORK) --  For years, Barbara Walters has told the stories of others as a journalist for ABC News.On Thursday, during a speech at the Breast Cancer Research Foundation's annual Symposium & Awards Luncheon, Walters, who was being honored with the Sandra Taub Humanitarian Award for her contributions to women’s health, told a personal tale: A few years ago, she had a lumpectomy.“As someone who believes in the power of investigation, in the power of discovery and uncovering the truth, I am an advocate for research and education,” she said. “I believe that we all have an obligation and a responsibility to support and fund medical research. Some years back, I discovered a small lump in my breast. Under the expert care of Dr. Larry Norton, I had a lumpectomy. There were other choices possible. This was mine."Walters -- who recently retired from The View, but stays active with ABC News and other projects -- said that at the time, she did tell a select group of people about the procedure. Thankfully, she never had to deal with it again, "nor was I worried," she said."I knew the advances that had been made in treating breast cancer, including lumpectomies when possible. I can remember when such treatments were not available," she said. "Research made my treatment possible.”

Joe Giudice Admits to Drinking Up to Four Bottles of Wine a Night

Charles Sykes/Bravo(NEW YORK) -- Real Housewives of New Jersey star Joe Giudice admitted to Watch What Happens Live host Andy Cohen in their sit-down interview that he does have a drinking problem. The reality star, who was just last week sentenced to three and a half years in jail for fraud, said in a few teaser clips for Thursday night's part two of the full interview, "I might have a little problem, yeah. I'm not going to lie.""I think I used to drink only on the weekends. Now I drink everyday," he said of how the problem has gotten worse recently. "But, just wine, I don't drink anything else really."In fact, Joe, 42, said, "I could easily do two, three bottles, four bottles easily" a night."You know with another person," he said. "Sometimes two by myself. Well one bottle's like sucking a bottle of milk, it's like nothing...It does help me sleep. It's either that or I have to take a pill and I don't want to take a pill."Joe Giudice and his wife Teresa were sentenced last Thursday and sat down with Cohen the next day to speak out for the first time about their upcoming jail sentences. Teresa got 15 months and the couple's sentences will be staggered. They are parents to four daughters -- Gia, Milania, Gabrielle and Audriana.Part one of the interview aired this past Monday and part two airs Thursday at 9 p.m. on Bravo.Joe also talked about the chance of him being deported since he's not an American citizen. "I'm going to worry about that when the time comes," he said.As for if he may have to move the family to Italy, where he's from, he said, "It's not such a bad thing."Teresa, 42, also said she doesn't resent Joe in any way, since he admitted that the fraud was mostly his doing. She starts her sentence on Jan. 5."I don't think he meant to hurt me in any way," she said of getting jail time. "I think it's a learning lesson for both of us...I know he didn't mean to hurt me in any way...Since [the sentencing], he's been feeling bad and keeps coming up to me and hugging me."Joe said he does feel guilty about dragging his wife into his legal mess. "But at the same time what am I going to do. I did everything I could to get her out of it, but didn't work," he said.

Every word of our account is accurate and we hope that Amanda gets the help that she needs."The magazine also released a picture of the reporter speaking with Bynes. As for the alleged DUI Bynes recently was arrested for, the California Highway Patrol said that after the actress stopped in the middle of an intersection, she was pulled over and an officer determined that she appeared to be under the influence of a substance. After she failed a field sobriety test, Bynes was arrested and charged with a misdemeanor.

The Los Angeles courts directed inquiries about her case to the local probation department, which said probation files are protected by privacy laws. The actress had been in rehab and left last December to live with her parents under a court-ordered conservatorship and attend fashion school.A request for comment from Star magazine was not immediately returned, while People magazine declined to comment.

Shonda Rhimes Explains Why She Didn’t Want Controversial “Times” Article Retracted

Shonda Rhimes Explains Why She Didn’t Want Controversial “Times” Article Retracted

ABC/Todd Wawrychuk(NEW YORK) -- Many were up in arms last month when Allesandra Stanley’s New York Times story on the new ABC series How to Get Away With Murder said that executive producer Shonda Rhimes redefined the "angry black woman" stereotype through characters like Scandal‘s Olivia Pope and Grey’s Anatomy‘s Dr. Miranda Bailey.Rhimes revealed in a new profile in The Hollywood Reporter that many of her colleagues were angry and wanted the story retracted. Still, the creator of Grey's Anatomy and Scandal, said she wanted the piece to stand as is.“Some really amazing articles were written that had the conversation that I’ve been trying to have for a very long time, which, coming from me, makes me sound like I’m just, ‘Rrrraw!," she explained as to why she didn't want the piece retracted.“In this world in which we all feel we’re so full of gender equality and we’re a postracial [society] and Obama is president, it’s a very good reminder to see the casual racial bias and odd misogyny from a woman written in a paper that we all think of as being so liberal,” she added.Stanley wrote in her piece, "When Shonda Rhimes writes her autobiography, it should be called How to Get Away With Being an Angry Black Woman."Still, Rhimes isn't the creator of the show. The writer and creator of How to Get Away with Murder is not even a female. It's a man named Pete Nowalk.Stanley also made some pretty broad claims about the physical appearance of African-American women on television.  She even asserted that Murder star Viola Davis is "less classically beautiful" than other African-American leading ladies like Scandal star Kerry Washington and Extant actress Halle Berry.Rhimes would rather not be defined in her career as "female" or black." The trade paper noted that when Rhimes read a draft of an announcement for a future event that described her as "the most powerful black female showrunner in Hollywood." Rhimes crossed out the words "female" and "black" and sent it back."They wouldn't say that someone is 'the most powerful white male showrunner in Hollywood,'" she told the magazine. "I find race and gender to be terribly important; they're terribly important to who I am. But there's something about the need for everybody else to spend time talking about it…that pisses me off."ABC's Thursday night lineup features three shows from Rhimes  -- Grey's Anatomy, Scandal and the new series How to Get Away with Murder.

“Scandal” Cuts Scenes with Stephen Collins, Wife Denies Extortion Claim

“Scandal” Cuts Scenes with Stephen Collins, Wife Denies Extortion Claim

Frederick M. Brown/Getty Images(LOS ANGELES) -- There are some scandals even the show Scandal can't support. The ABC drama has cut scenes from an upcoming episode featuring actor Stephen Collins, who is currently embroiled in child abuse allegations."We can confirm that we will not be airing any footage with Stephen Collins," a rep for ABC said in a statement Wednesday.Collins, who appeared in an episode of the show in 2012, had tweeted about his return to the show in September. "Happy to say I did another episode of #Scandal. Had a gr8 time. Wish I could say more but @ShondaRhimes would have to kill me," he wrote.Collins, 67, starred as family patriarch Rev. Eric Camden on 7th Heaven from 1996-2007.  His more recent roles include the TV series Devious Maids and Revolution.Police are investigating claims that Collins molested three girls years ago, after a tape of the actor discussing the incidents, recorded in 2012 by his estranged wife Faye Grant was made public Tuesday.Grant has denied having any part of the leak, saying that she turned over the recording to the authorities two years ago. Now, she's defending herself against claims made by Collins's lawyer, Mark Vincent Kaplan, to TMZ that she "repeatedly threatened to give this audiotape to the media unless Stephen agreed to pay her millions of dollars more than that to which she was legally entitled."Grant told ABC News in a statement: "This is a deeply sad situation for everyone involved. With regard to the divorce proceedings, I am seeking no more than that to which I am legally entitled under the laws of the State of California. The recording of Mr. Collins' statements has not been part of family court proceedings or any negotiations related to that action at any time."Collins and Grant are scheduled to begin their divorce trial next week, though they've been apart for some time: The actor filed for divorce in 2012, after more than 20 years of marriage. Larry A. Ginsberg, an attorney for Grant, reiterated his client's claim that she turned over the tape to the LAPD and NYPD around the time of the couple's split, "after Mr. Collins refused to address and get help with regard to his reprehensible conduct.""It is offensive and outrageous that Mr. Collins' lawyer is now attempting to deflect focus away from the disturbing content of the recording and away from Mr. Collins' admissions by attacking the victims, including Faye, who Mr. Collins' lawyer is attempting to portray as the 'villain' in this tragic situation," Ginsberg told ABC News in a statement."From the very beginning of the dissolution of marriage matter, Faye has worked diligently to get this matter settled and to put it behind her while coping with the distress and trauma suffered as a result of the revelations about Mr. Collins' life. Faye requested that Mr. Collins create a trust fund for their [adult] daughter, and further requested that he make a contribution to a charitable organization benefiting sexually abused children. To falsely characterize these requests as extortion threats is reckless and constitutes yet further abuse," the statement continued.

Movie Review: “The Judge” (Rated R)

Movie Review: “The Judge” (Rated R)

Warner Bros.(NEW YORK) -- Hank Palmer (Robert Downey Jr.) is a cocky SOB. He’s a high-profile defense attorney in Chicago and the type of guy who will “accidentally” urinate on a prosecutor who confronts him in the courthouse bathroom during a trial break.  Hank’s got a beautiful wife, a gorgeous house, and an adorable daughter, Lauren (Emma Tremblay). But with the exception of Lauren, it’s all window dressing. Hank’s marriage is falling apart and he’s practically estranged from his parents and his two brothers. That quickly changes when his mother dies, and Hank heads back to his childhood home in Indiana. Hank visits the courthouse, where he sits up in the rafters and watches the Honorable Joseph Palmer dish out his brand of tough justice. As you’ve probably figured out, the judge is Hank’s father. What we quickly learn is there’s no love lost between these two. Joseph isn’t just a stern judge, he’s a stern dad. His three sons don’t even call him dad: they refer to him as “Judge.” The morning of the funeral, everyone grabs breakfast at the local diner, where we meet Sam (the always impressive Vera Farmiga), who’s working behind the counter. Wouldn’t you know it, she happens to be Hank’s ex-girlfriend. There’s an instant, though uncomfortable chemistry. In fact, throughout the film, Downey imbues this small-town-boy-turned-city-slicker with a steady undercurrent of uncomfortable, nervous tension while managing to maintain his slick veneer. The movie shifts into high gear when the judge is accused of intentionally hitting and killing Mark Blackwell with his car the night of his wife’s funeral. More than 20 years earlier, the judge gave Blackwell a light sentence for committing a violent act against his girlfriend, whom Blackwell then killed shortly after getting out of jail.  This is when Duvall takes over the movie. His performance at age 83 -- or any age, really -- is a tour de force of nuance, stoicism and pent-up rage. It’s a sight to behold. The judge does not want Hank to defend him in court, so he hires a country bumpkin attorney  (Dax Shepard in arguably his best role to date) who’s only ever defended one client. Making the task even more difficult is the special prosecutor brought in for this case: Dwight Dickham, played by Billy Bob Thornton. Hank and the judge’s combustible relationship plays authentic and relatable on so many levels. You don’t have be a son or a father -- you could be a mother and daughter, sister and brother, aunt, uncle or nephew. Hank’s relationship with Sam is almost as compelling, but for different reasons. There’s a lot of drama here, but it’s the type of conflict that keeps us interested until the very end. Did the judge really murder Blackwell? Will this dysfunctional family ever function? Director and co-writer David Dobkin does a fine job keeping us guessing. The verdict? The Judge is excellent. Four-and-a-half out of five stars.

Teresa Giudice: ‘I Wish I Could Do Everything Differently’

Charles Sykes/Bravo(NEW YORK) -- Teresa Giudice starts her 15-month jail sentence for fraud in January, but the mother of four considers the upcoming time behind bars a learning experience."I wish I could do everything differently," Giudice told US Weekly. "But then again, maybe not, because this is a life lesson that I need to learn and will learn, and will teach my children for the rest of my life, just as Judge [Esther] Salas told me she expected me to do."U.S. District Court Judge Salas had some parenting advice for the reality star last Thursday during her sentencing. "Your four daughters need to understand discipline. If you don't have it, you shouldn't spend it," she said in court. "If they won't like you because you're not driving a Benz or walking on Jimmy Choos or Manolo Blahniks, then they're not your friends."The judge also staggered Teresa's sentence with her husband Joe's three and a half years. In a special interview for Bravo that aired earlier this week, the Real Housewives of New Jersey star said she's not worried about turning herself into prison."I'm going to do fine [in prison]. …I just want to make sure my daughters are OK. I just want to talk to my daughters every day. I want [Joe] to bring them to me," she said. Turning to Joe, Teresa added: "Just make sure you come once a week."

The reality star will head to prison on Jan. 5.
