Report: Richard Pryor’s Kids Upset Nick Cannon May Play Late Comic in Film

Report: Richard Pryor’s Kids Upset Nick Cannon May Play Late Comic in Film

Michael Ochs Archives/Getty Images(NEW YORK) — A Richard Pryor biopic based on the late comedian’s life has reportedly been in the works for some time, and now the latest rumor that says Nick Cannon may be in talks to portray Pryor onscreen has several members of the late comic’s family upset.According to TMZ, Richard Pryor Jr. and Rain Pryor don’t think Cannon is the right fit for the role and instead want Marlon Wayans to portray their dad.Cannon himself played coy when asked directly by TMZ last week if he was part of the project. “It’s one of those things where the movie isn’t in production yet…so I’m trying to play it close to the vest,” he explained.Cannon did say however that he’s met with Oscar-nominated director Lee Daniels, who has reportedly been tapped to helm the project. “I told Lee the one thing I’m not going to do is freebase. I’m not going that far,” Cannon quipped, referencing Pryor’s infamous drug problem.Reportedly, Marlon Wayans, Damon Wayans, Eddie Griffin, Chris Rock and Eddie Murphy have all been involved in projects to portray Pryor on film, but none of them have panned out.Follow @ABCNewsRadio Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio

Cee Lo Says He Quit “The Voice” When It Became ‘a Job’

Cee Lo Says He Quit “The Voice” When It Became ‘a Job’

Mark Seliger/NBC(LOS ANGELES) — Cee Lo Green will be on TV this summer with his new TBS reality series The Good Life, which follows his reunited early hip-hop group Goodie Mob.  But he won’t be back on The Voice.  Despite rumors that circulated last winter that the singer quit the competition show to avoid being fired, Cee Lo says he left because the show had become a grind.”It easily and quickly became a job,” the singer tells Us Weekly. “Very, very obligating…Taxing and tiring…I still tip my hat to Adam [Levine] and Blake [Shelton] and those guys who continuously do it, but I think I ran my course there just naturally.”Cee Lo says he parted ways with the show “amicably” and added, “I’ve got some very great memories there.”He also recounts for Us Weekly that he was recruited for the show by Adam who said he wouldn’t do the show without Cee Lo.”He called and said, ‘Hey man, there’s this new show The Voice and I don’t really know what it’s going to be about, and I don’t really want to do any more kind of music shows.  Do you think it’s cool? If you do it, I’ll do it. If you don’t do it, I won’t do it,’” Cee Lo says. “And I was like, ‘Well, just judging from the premise, the blind auditions,’ it’s something that everybody agrees is just really original. It had a great new spin.”The singer does have some advice for incoming coaches Pharrell Williams and Gwen Stefani. “Just kind of pace yourself,” he says. “Just find it enjoyable, and as long as you’re passionate about discovering new talent and really helping people and encouraging them to be themselves and live out loud and follow their dreams, then you should have no problem.”Follow @ABCNewsRadio Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio

“Rising Star” Recap: On the Final Night of Auditions, Five Contestants Advance

“Rising Star” Recap: On the Final Night of Auditions, Five Contestants Advance

ABC/Bob D’Amico(NEW YORK) — ABC’s interactive singing competition, Rising Star, concluded its round of live auditions Sunday night with five contestants advancing and five other acts being sent home. The show asks viewers to download the Rising Star app and vote on each contestant, who perform behind a massive video wall. If the contestant receives at least 70 percent in “yes” votes, the wall rises, and he or she advances. The two-hour show aired live on the East Coast, but viewers on the other side of the country also had the chance to determine the contestants’ fate.Host Josh Groban and the Rising Star “experts” — Kesha, Ludacris and Brad Paisley — presided over the auditions. The “experts” were allowed to vote. So were West Coast viewers, even though they watched the show on delay.Five contestants advanced Sunday during the live East Coast broadcast. No additional singers were saved from elimination by West Coast voters. All the advancing contestants will now compete in head-to-head singing duals, beginning next week. The ultimate winner receives a contract with Capitol Records. Here are the highlights from Sunday night:Dana Williams, 24, is a teacher’s assistant from Los Angeles. Her late father, David, was a rhythm guitarist for Michael Jackson and one of Dana’s biggest musical influences. Her version of Rihanna and Mikky Ekko’s “Stay” captured 87 percent of the vote. Ludacris thought she could project more in the lower register and better control on the high notes, but could see she was “doing it for her father” and voted yes. Kesha also voted for Williams, commenting that she could “go all the way” and her father would be proud of her. Paisley agreed and voted yes. Paisley said Williams’ performance was “fantastic” and “as good as it gets.”Long Branch, New Jersey, native Audrey Kate Geiger is a bartender and yoga instructor who gets her inspiration from her dad, also an aspiring rock musician. She sang “Stay with Me” by Sam Smith and captured 84 percent of the vote. Ludacris thought some of Geiger’s runs were off, but said the performance took him “somewhere else” and he voted yes.  Paisley and Kesha also voted for Geiger to advance but noted that she needed to “let her hair down” and “be herself.”Gabrielle Nicole is a 20-year-old from Cleveland who has been singing since the age of four. She’s also a self-described “diva.” She tackled Billie Holliday’s “My Man” and drew an amazing 90 percent of the vote. Ludacris said she “earned the right to be called a diva.” Paisley agreed, adding, “You are ridiculous.”  Kesha, referencing a comment Nicole made in her video segment prior to the performance, declared, “Divas don’t do mediocre,” and called the audition “far from mediocre.” All three judges were on their feet for the performance and voted for Nicole to advance.Karen Hornsby is a former school teacher and current stay-at-home mom to her daughter Gabrielle, who was left blind and unable to speak following treatment for brain cancer. She chose Celine Dion’s “To Love You More” for her audition and collected 82 percent of the vote. Paisley had some issues with the performance, but said he couldn’t deny the audience’s reaction to the song and voted yes. Kesha was moved to tears by Hornsby’s story and voice, which she said were both “amazing.” Kesha voted for Hornsby to advance. Ludacris agreed with Paisley that there were some problems with the performance, but voted yes.Seventeen-year-old Morgan Higgins is one of the youngest performers in the competition. The normally shy San Clemente, California, native says singing allows her to let go and truly be herself. She earned 79 percent with her performance of Heart’s “Alone.” Paisley thought Morgan was a talented singer, but gave her a “no” due to her lack of confidence. Kesha disagreed, commenting that she saw a little bit of herself in the singer and believed in her. Ludacris thought the performance started out slow, but picked up towards the end and gave the young singer a “yes.”To recap: Dana Williams, Audrey Kate Geiger, Gabrielle Nicole, Karen Hornsby and Morgan Higgins all advanced to the next round.Cliff Cody, Skye Griffin, the four-man singing group Unselfish, the duo OhMG and the trio Tx3 all failed to earn the 70 percent in “yes” votes needed to raise the wall and advance. The singing triplets who call themselves Tx3 received the lowest score on both coasts — 22 percent during the live East Coast show and 25 percent on the West Coast broadcast.  Still, Kesha voted for them, but just so she could see them take their shirts off, which they do sometimes while performing. Backstage, after the show, the members told ABC News Radio they thought about going shirtless, but weren’t sure it was allowed.Kesha voted “yes” for nine of the 10 acts that performed Sunday. Ludacris told ABC News Radio backstage that he believes Kesha “is identifying with other things besides just the talent that’s on stage.” The evening also included Paisley performing his new song “River Bank.”Rising Star continues next Sunday on ABC.Follow @ABCNewsRadio Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio

Jessica Simpson Marries Eric Johnson

Jessica Simpson Marries Eric Johnson

Tommaso Boddi/WireImage(SANTA BARBARA, Calif.) — Jessica Simpson is a married woman!
The singer and her fiancé Eric Johnson tied the knot in Santa Barbara, Calif., they told People.
“We are overwhelmed with complete happiness and love having made our eternal commitment,” the couple told People. “To say ‘I do’ in front of family, friends, and most importantly, our children has been the happiest moment of our lives.”
Simpson, 33, and Johnson, 34, got engaged in 2010 after six months together. The next year, she announced that they were expecting their first child, daughter Maxwell Drew, who was born in May 2012. Just a few months later, Simpson was surprised to learn that she was expecting again, and in June 2013, their son Ace Knute came along.
After two children, Simpson said this past January that “we need to get married,” though she wasn’t in a rush.
“If he wanted to run, he could have run when I was hormonal and pregnant,” she said on Good Morning America. “I already feel like we’re like an old married couple already!”
Simpson was previously married to Nick Lachey. The couple, who split in 2005, had featured their relationship on the MTV reality series Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica.

Kanye Goes on Rant About Fashion Industry, Reveals He Knew He’d Always Marry Kim

Kanye Goes on Rant About Fashion Industry, Reveals He Knew He’d Always Marry Kim

ABC/Randy Holmes(LONDON) — Kanye West, known for his long-winded rants, is at it again. This time, West interrupted his closing set at the Wireless Festival on Friday with a rant.Concert goers said West free-style ranted for more than 20 minutes on a range of topics from discrimination within the fashion industry to his marriage to Kim Kardashian. And in true Kanye style, he donned a glittery, bejeweled full-faced mask during his performance at Finsbury Park in London.West, 37, paused his headlining act and began to preach to the crowd. He told them to follow their dreams because he told his wife, Kim Kardashian, seven years ago that he was going to marry her and didn’t say “try.”It’s not the first time West has engaged in an on-stage venting session, however, his speech Friday night had some notable moments.”You know, people be looking at me like I got a problem or something,” West began his auto-tuned lecture. “Like I’m uncontrollable, or something.”But as far as he is concerned, everyone is a star, West sang to kick off his off-the-cuff remarks.West made sure to let the crowd know his thoughts on the media’s representation of his image.”First thing they do is crush your dreams, then add a couple drops of low self-esteem,” West said. “And control you with lies, control you with lies, control you lies, but we going out of control tonight.”West went on to say he has been the victim of “dishumanization” from his critics, admitting he just invented the word on the spot.”What have I ever done that was so wrong, other than believing in myself? If believing in yourself is so so so wrong, and the other side is so so so so strong in trying to beat down, and demonize and dishumanize and I don’t know if that’s a word or not, and if it’s not a word then I said it’s a (beeping) word.”West said he’s not particularly angry, but the media spins the idea of celebrity to make West seem stupid, he explained.”I’m not going to call no names, I’m not going to say Nike or anything,” West added.”I’m not dissing Louis Vuitton, I’m not dissing the Gucci group,” West said. “I’m just saying don’t discriminate against me because I’m a black man or because I’m a celebrity to determine that I can’t create.”West’s rant was met with boos and jeers.”After about 10 minutes, the boos started and I saw a lot of people leaving,” concert goer Amie Holdsworth said. “He also had a go at the camera guy and told them to turn off the side screens a few times.””They were also shouting and swearing at him to get on with it,” audience member Gemma Gould said.West is known for his bold statements and long speeches. At his wedding, Kanye gave a 20-minute speech and declared the Kardashian family “the most remarkable people of our time” who can “make the world a better place.”

Seven Celebrity Weddings to Be Excited About

Seven Celebrity Weddings to Be Excited About

Noel Vasquez/Getty Images(LOS ANGELES) — On Saturday night, Jessica Simpson and Eric Johnson tied the knot after four years and two children. The festivities may be over now, but don’t worry: plenty of other stars will be walking down the aisle soon. Here’s who else may be saying “I do” sooner rather than later!
George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin
The impossible has happened: George Clooney is officially engaged, and his wedding, big or small, will make waves in Hollywood. As much as we’d love to see Amal Alamuddin in a gorgeous wedding gown, it’s possible that this super-private couple will keep things low-key. One possibility: Rande Gerber and Cindy Crawford will be on hand to help them celebrate, as they helped the couple toast their engagement.
Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade
Both Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade had a blast at their engagement party in March, but surprisingly, it’s the NBA star who’s most excited about the details of their wedding. “This is, like, his princess moment,” Union told Ellen DeGeneres. “He’s waited for this for a long time. He’s been hoarding bridal magazines. He’s very ready.” Union added that the few guests that they’re inviting will enjoy a variety of musical selections, from the O’Jays to Ariana Grande, and yes, before they say “I do,” both stars will be signing a prenuptial agreement.
Donnie Wahlberg and Jenny McCarthy
Jenny McCarthy made a huge deal of her engagement to Blue Bloods star Donnie Wahlberg, but it seems their wedding will be pretty small. “A perfect wedding for me would be Jenny, myself, and our three boys,” McCarthy told Us Weekly recently, adding that they might elope
Mary-Kate Olsen and Olivier Sarkozy
Two of the Olsen girls are engaged, but Mary-Kate’s nuptials to Olivier Sarkozy will be first, according to her sister, Elizabeth. This couple has been private about their relationship, but if they do have a wedding, not only is Olsen’s twin sister, Ashley, likely to be on-hand, but also, her fiance’s brother, former French president Nicholas Sarkozy and his wife, Carla Bruni. Here’s hoping the bride’s chooses a vintage designer dress to match her 1953 Cartier engagement ring.
Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher
In February, the news broke that former That ’70s Show co-stars Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher were engaged. Then, a few weeks later, it was revealed that the happy couple was expecting their first child together. This is definitely a couple that knows how to goof around and have a good time (remember their moment on the Kiss Cam?), so it’s safe to assume that their wedding will have elements of fun. But will they wed before baby?
Ashlee Simpson and Evan Ross
Between the bride, her sister, and the groom’s mother (Evan Ross’s mother is singer Diana Ross), this promises to be this year’s most musical wedding. It could also be one of the most lavish: The couple’s March engagement bash had a white feather and fur theme, and was partially planned by the groom’s mother.
Allison Williams and Ricky Van Veen
Between Allison William’s family (her dad is Brian Williams) and work (she’s one of the stars of the HBO series Girls), the guest list would be stacked enough. But add in her and College Humor creator Ricky Van Veen’s friends John Mayer, Katy Perry, Seth Meyers and more, this could be one of the best weddings to get excited about.

Life Lessons From “Forrest Gump” on Its 20th Anniversary

Life Lessons From “Forrest Gump” on Its 20th Anniversary

Photo by Barry King/Liaison(LOS ANGELES) — Sunday is the 20th anniversary of Forrest Gump, which was released on July 6, 1994.
Tom Hanks played the titular character, a simple man who was involved in significant moments in United States history during the second half of the 20th century.
Based on the 1986 novel by Winston Groom, Forrest Gump, which also featured Robin Wright, Gary Sinise, and Sally Field, was a financial and critical success. Not only did it make approximately $330 million at the domestic box office, it also won six Oscars, including best picture, best actor for Hanks, and best director for Robert Zemeckis.
Forrest Gump even inspired a global restaurant chain, the Bubba Gump Shrimp Company, which has more than two dozen locations in the U.S.
Forrest Gump is one of the most quoted movies of our time, as the lessons Forrest taught and learned are eternal. Here are a few of the life lessons from the film:
1. You’ll Never Know What You’re Capable Of If You Don’t TryForrest was born with a back that was “as crooked as a politician,” requiring him to wear braces on his legs. A constant target for bullies, his only childhood friend famously advised him to “run, Forrest, run!” when they began picking on him. He broke free of his braces and later enjoyed a successful career as a college athlete. (Then he ran across the country for three years, but that’s another lesson.) Always try. You may surprise yourself.2. To Have Good Friends, Be a Good FriendThere were no better friends than Forrest and Bubba, whom he met at war in Vietnam. Not only did they sleep back-to-back to avoid the mud, but after Bubba died, Forrest lived out Bubba’s dream of being a shrimping boat captain. Forrest was a good friend to Bubba because Bubba was so loyal to him. It’s simple: Be kind.3. Pay AttentionDuring Forrest’s run across the country, he became the inspiration for the famous smiley-face yellow t-shirt and the bumper sticker, “S*** happens.” Always listen when people are speaking to you and keep your eyes open.4. Do What You Love, No Matter WhatForrest loved mowing the lawn so much that he did it even when he was a “gazillionaire.” From the outside, that must have looked foolish, but he didn’t care: He was always true to himself. Be honest with yourself about what makes you happy.5.Stay Positive and FocusedWhen Lieutenant Dan lost his legs in the Vietnam War, he grew depressed and did everything he could to distract himself from his problems. However, after joining Forrest on his shrimping boat and later investing their earnings in a new technology company by the name of Apple, his life turned around dramatically. Stay positive and always look ahead. Better days are coming.6. It’s Great to Give BackAfter earning a fortune, Forrest gave Bubba’s portion of the shrimping boat business to Bubba’s family. “There’s only so much fortune a man really needs and the rest is just for showing off,” he reasoned. “So, I gave a whole bunch of it to the Foursquare Gospel Church and I gave a whole bunch to the Bayou La Batre Fishing Hospital. And even though Bubba was dead, and Lieutenant Dan said I was nuts, I gave Bubba’s momma Bubba’s share. And you know what? She didn’t have to work in nobody’s kitchen no more.” If you can share your wealth, it’s worth doing.7. Expect the Unexpected and Be Open-MindedLike Forrest’s mother said, “Life is like a box of chocolates: You never know what you’re gonna get.”

“Seinfeld” Celebrates 25th Anniversary

“Seinfeld” Celebrates 25th Anniversary

Scott Flynn/AFP/Getty Images(NEW YORK) — Twenty-five years ago this Saturday, one of the most popular sitcoms in American television history premiered. The first episode of Seinfeld — initially titled The Seinfeld Chronicles — aired July 5, 1989. NBC later ordered more episodes, and yada yada yada, Jerry, George, Elaine and Kramer became iconic TV characters who made countless contributions to the pop culture lexicon. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. However, the Seinfeld pilot didn’t quite resemble the show that millions came to know and love. It began with Jerry Seinfeld’s Jerry and Jason Alexander’s George dining in their native New York City at Pete’s Luncheonette, rather than the familiar Monk’s Café. They weren’t even sitting in a booth. In the scene, Jerry riffs on the buttons on George’s shirt. The show harkened back to this conversation in the final moments of the series finale in 1998, when Jerry and the gang were jailed.Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ character, Elaine, was not yet part of the cast. The lead female role belonged to Lee Garlington, who played a sassy waitress at Pete’s. Michael Richards is featured in the episode, but his character is referred to as Kessler, not Kramer. The pilot was the only Seinfeld episode to air in 1989. The retooled first season resumed the following summer, this time with Louis-Dreyfus in the fold. The so-called “show about nothing” aired for a total of nine seasons, picking up an armload of Emmys along the way, and continues to live on in syndication.

Lance Bass on Debut Single: ‘It’s Something I Miss So Much’

Imeh Akpanudosen/Getty Images(NEW YORK) — Lance Bass has changed a lot since his ‘NSYNC daysNow, more than a decade since the iconic group retired and its members went their separate ways, the 35-year-old has decided to get back into music. “It’s exciting. I detoured for a while there,” he told ABC News. “I had a little free time a few months ago and I decided I want to do my debut single. It’s something I miss so much.”So when the opportunity to record with an up-and-coming talent happened, Bass jumped at it.”One song fell in my lap that I just knew I had to record, which was the song, ‘Walking on Air,’” he said. “The girl on the track, I fell in love with — Bella Blue — and I had to do this duet as my first single.”He added, “We released it in Europe in January and it was No. 1 for several weeks. Now we are ready to take America by storm, so we released it two weeks ago and are going to start promoting that, going to start in the clubs.”There was even a remix that hit the clubs last week.”In the meantime, I’m already working on my second single, so music is def back in my life,” he said. So, how does Bass’ music differ from his “Bye, Bye, Bye” days with the likes of Justin Timberlake?Well, for one, he’s engaged to the love of his life, Michael Turchin, and will be filming his upcoming nuptials for an E! special early next year.”I like to sing from my heart,” he said. “Even with the remix to ‘Walking on Air,’ you’ll actually hear me saying the word ‘boy’ instead of ‘girl,’ like, ‘Oh, my gosh,’ think about a guy singing about a guy.”Bass came out as gay in 2006 and couldn’t be happier with Turchin.”This year, I’m extremely proud just because, right now, I’m wearing an engagement ring,” he said. “And knowing that I’m going to get married because of how hard people fought is overwhelming and very emotional for me.”Expect a lot of new hits to come from Bass’ upcoming wedding.”Yeah, I think this wedding is definitely going to inspire a lot of great ballads,” he said.

Why Kelly Osbourne’s Mom Hates Her Head Tattoo

Taylor Hill/Getty Images(NEW YORK) — Kelly Osbourne made sure to say “Sorry mum and dad but I love it!” when she posted a picture of her head tattoo “Stories…” on Twitter last week.Earlier this week on Good Morning America, the singer and actress added that her mother Sharon wasn’t a fan of the new ink.”None of my family are happy with it, but that’s okay, they are entitled to their opinion,” she said of the tattoo that she said has a lot of meaning for a secret project. She continued, “My mom will always see me as the pretty little blonde girl, that my hair used to be the color of gold. My natural hair color is blonde and when I go in the sun, it turns this gold color, my mom wants me to remain like a little tiny doll, like I was when I was a little girl and I’m not. All moms want their daughters to be perfect, having a tattoo on the side of your head and a mohawk isn’t exactly every mother’s dream and I can understand that.”Osbourne, who plays original Disney villain Hildy Gloom on the new show 7D, which is a new take on the Seven Dwarfs, said she’s been embracing her differences like a new tattoo and a purple mohawk, and a lot of this confidence comes from an unlikely source — Pharrell Williams. The two had a heart-to-heart talk recently when she appeared in his new video “Marilyn Monroe.””He basically picked out every little thing I thought was wrong with myself and told me that’s what made me special and that’s what made me beautiful and that’s what made me different and to be different is the best thing that you can be,” she said. “I was always embarrassed by my difference and with that one conversation, I was no longer embarrassed.”
