Malik Yoba Talks “Empire,” Explains Why Movie Stars Are Heading to TV

Chuck Hodes/FOX(NEW YORK) — Malik Yoba is among the actors set to star in Fox's new musical drama, Empire. He portrays Vernon Turner, the onscreen business partner of Terrence Howard's Luscious Lyon, who went from a drug dealer to the CEO of a record label."Empire is [Oscar-nominated director] Lee Daniels' first foray into scripted television, and so it should be pretty interesting," Yoba tells ABC News Radio.  Daniels is one of the show's executive producers.Along with Howard, Taraji P. Henson also stars in the series. Both are past Oscar nominees.  Meanwhile, another Oscar nominee, Gabourey Sidibe, has a recurring role, while an Oscar winner, Cuba Gooding Jr., appears in the first episode."People want to work and it's very hard to get films greenlit," Yoba explains of the trend of movie stars heading to TV. "I mean there's 53 platforms for scripted television, for scripted content now, where there used to just be a couple. So it makes sense. You know what I mean? It's hard to get movies made." Fox's Empire premieres Wednesday at 9 p.m. Eastern time.

Five Things We Learned from Katherine Heigl’s Facebook Q&A

Five Things We Learned from Katherine Heigl’s Facebook Q&A

Michael Parmelee/NBC(NEW YORK) -- From how she starts her day to which is harder -- being a mom or playing a CIA agent -- Katherine Heigl answered questions from fans during a live Q&A on Facebook Monday.Heigl, 36, plays CIA analyst Charleston Tucker on the new series State of Affairs, where her job is to keep the president, played by Alfre Woodard, apprised of security threats to the nation. But apparently that's nothing compared to being a mom to her two daughters.

Here's what Heigl had to say about motherhood and more:

Which is harder: being a CIA agent or a mom?

"Mom at home!! Playing a character on TV or in film can be demanding and stressful, but nothing matters more to me than being a good mom, so the pressure of that role far outweighs everything else I do!!"

Do you wake up all bright and shiny or more dark and twisted?

"Hmmm ... probably more hazy and out of it! My daughters know that I’m good for nothing until I’ve had my first cup of Yerba Mate!" And forget about Starbucks. "I don't drink coffee and can't drink milk so I usually make myself a coconut milk chai latte at home!" Heigl said.

What to tell a fan's husband who refuses to watch State of Affairs because he says it portrays Muslims negatively:

"I would tell him to be patient and see how the season unfolds...we aren’t portraying Muslims negatively but rather terrorism in all forms...Charleston is trying to protect the ideals of the Muslim religion by eradicating those who hold it hostage."

Her advice on adoption:

"I would say that having children, no matter how you choose to do that, is the most rewarding, challenging, and joyful experiences of a mother’s life. Adoption can be a long and strenuous experience, but so very very worth it in the end! Just stay patient and purposeful! I wish you luck and love on your journey!"

Whether she would do a sequel with Josh Duhamel for Life As We Know It:

"I would love to!!!"

Anne Hathaway’s Oscar Advice to Neil Patrick Harris: ‘Do the Opposite of What I Did’

Anne Hathaway’s Oscar Advice to Neil Patrick Harris: ‘Do the Opposite of What I Did’

ABC/Adam Taylor(NEW YORK) -- People are still commenting on the 2011 Oscars and if they loved or hated Anne Hathaway and James Franco as co-hosts.

Hathaway herself isn't afraid to voice her opinion.

When asked by New York Times Magazine her advice for 2015 host Neil Patrick Harris, she said, "Do the opposite of what I did, and you’ll be fine."

A follow-up question asked the 32-year-old actress: "What do you think went wrong?"

"I think it’s so obvious that it doesn’t even need to be identified. He’ll be great. He’s a natural host," she answered.

If you recall, the Oscar-nominated Franco didn't say or do much during his co-hosting stint with Hathaway, and the chemistry was lacking between the two.

Hathaway, who was promoting her new movie Song One to the magazine, also spoke about getting hooked on smoking back when she was filming Rachel Getting Married, which came out in 2008.

"I’ve quit. I got hooked for a few years. I had a four-year break, and then actually when I was producing Song One, I started smoking again. It’s easy to romanticize it when you haven’t done it in a while, but it’s actually pretty disgusting," she added.

Lena Dunham and Jack Antonoff Address Engagement Rumors

Lena Dunham and Jack Antonoff Address Engagement Rumors

ABC/Randy Holmes(NEW YORK) -- Lena Dunham and boyfriend Jack Antonoff have been sounding off on marriage lately, but don't expect them to head down the aisle anytime soon.

The Girls creator and star addressed those pesky engagement rumors that arose last week after she posted a photo of herself in her favorite vintage find of 2014.

This jacket= my most beloved vintage find of 2014 @thebeardedladystore

A photo posted by Lena Dunham (@lenadunham) on Dec 12, 2014 at 10:50am PST

Instead of noticing her jacket, fans picked up on the ring she seemed to be flaunting on her left hand.Dunham and her friend and co-executive producer, Jenni Konner, explained to reporters Monday night at the the Girls season-four premiere that the "ring" was actually a stack of three friendship rings."When they announced that she was wearing an engagement ring, I was like, 'Yeah, to me!'" Konner joked.Added Dunham: "Yeah, we're engaged to continue to work together for the rest of my life."Dunham went on to say she wasn't sure why that particular ring caught everyone's attention."It's funny, I have a ring that my boyfriend gave me that I wear on my right hand, and like, clearly nobody gives a s*** about...it's like a diamond! And everybody was like, 'Let's ignore that diamond and focus on this stack of three rings,'" she said. "I definitely had a feeling, like, 'Slow news day, dudes?'"

The news, however, managed to reach her rocker boyfriend's family."He was, like, 'My mom called asking if we were engaged?'" Dunham told reporters. "She was, like, on him. I also just want to say that if we were going to get engaged, we would be more creative than to do it on New Year's Eve. You don't want to be basic."For his part, Antonoff is not in a hurry either. The Bleachers and fun. singer told ABC News' Nightline that he and Dunham would be putting off marriage "till it's legal for everyone.""That's what I personally believe," he said. "To me, it seems odd to get married especially when someone else can’t and I always believed, especially in my state, that it should be a country thing."Questions about their marital status is something Dunham has learned to take in stride, having made peace with being a celebrity."I realized early on that I was not going to be able to have a comfortable relationship with celebrity if I didn’t feel like I was using it to talk about things that were important to me," she told Elle's fifth annual Women in TV issue. "It was always going to make me feel gross, for lack of a better word. I was like, ‘Oh, this attention is something I’m going to figure out how to use in a way that feels productive, healthy, and smart. And not just like as an excuse to collect handbags.'"She paused."Although," she told the magazine. "I love handbags."

“Bachelorette” Andi Dorfman Wore a Homemade $15 Dress to the “Bachelor” Premiere

“Bachelorette” Andi Dorfman Wore a Homemade $15 Dress to the “Bachelor” Premiere

Tommaso Boddi/WireImage(NEW YORK) -- Andi Dorfman has always been someone to go after what she wants -- so when she couldn't find a red carpet dress she liked in a store, she took matters into her own hands.

The former Bachelorette star said that the olive green gown she wore to Monday night's Bachelor premiere was a Dorfman original.

"I sewed it on the plane, so don’t look too closely at the hemline -- seriously don’t," she told People. "The shoes are Jimmy Choo, so I feel like that makes up for it. The clutch is Jimmy Choo, the shoes are Jimmy Choo, and the dress was like $15 of fabric."

Dorfman, who worked as a lawyer in Atlanta before going on the ABC reality show, now has her own fashion line with Southward Apparel. However, it remains to be seen whether the burgeoning designer, who got engaged to Josh Murray last year, will also be designing her wedding gown, or when and where the nuptials will take place.

"It's time to take a little break and make a little home in Atlanta and figure it out there,” she told the magazine. "[But] I would definitely have some of the girls from my season in my wedding, at my wedding. There's definitely some girls that I’ve kept in good contact with -- they're some of my best friends.”

The 22 Jump Street star posted on Facebook Monday, "How do you say October 7, 2016 in Cajun?"

For those who are fans of the X-Men franchise, obviously Tatum is referring to the card-throwing character Gambit, who has strong ties to New Orleans. Gambit first appeared in the early 1990's. The only time we've seen the X-Men great in any of the movies has been in 2009's X-Men Origins: Wolverine, where Taylor Kitsch played the role.

Now with Tatum at the helm, he's getting his own movie in 2016.

The Magic Mike star was first confirmed by X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner as the card-throwing Gambit, real name Remy LeBeau, back in May. Donner told Total Film, "It is Channing, yes, yes."

Gambit will be coming out five months after the new X-Men: Apocalypse hits theaters on May 27, 2016.

“The Bachelor”: Chris Soules Meets 30 Women, Premiere Ends in Cliffhanger

“The Bachelor”: Chris Soules Meets 30 Women, Premiere Ends in Cliffhanger

ABC(LOS ANGELES) — The 19th season of The Bachelor began Monday night on ABC with a three-hour extravaganza that ended in an unusual cliffhanger.Chris Soules, a farmer from Iowa who was rejected by Andi Dorfman on the 2014 season of The Bachelorette, was introduced to 30 women at the Bachelor mansion. After the standard getting-to-know-you mixer, Chris dismissed eight of the ladies during the first rose ceremony of the season. One of the eliminated bachelorettes was a yoga instructor named Kimberly, who apparently had a hard time letting go. She briefly left the mansion before returning inside to ask Chris if she could pull him aside for a second. What happened next? You'll have to tune in to next Monday's episode to find out.In a twist to the usual format, only 15 women were taken to the Bachelor mansion at first. They were confused when the party began with a relatively small number of bachelorettes in attendance. Their confusion gave way to disappointment once their other rivals showed up.Many of the 30 women tried to stand out with funny, quirky or just plain awkward arrivals. Reegan, a cadaver tissue saleswoman, presented Chris with a fake heart in a cooler. Real estate agent Nicole wore a pig nose and told Chris she was hamming things up for him. Get it?Tara wore a country outfit, including cowboy boots, to the mansion, but she quickly felt she was being judged by the other women. So she put on a dress, sneaked out of the mansion and into a limousine, and then introduced herself again to Chris. Tara's choice of clothing wouldn't be her only problem in the episode.Ashley S., a hairstylist, provided some comic relief for the cameras when she became obsessed with a pomegranate hanging on a plant that she thought was an onion.Amid all of the craziness, Chris gave his first impression rose to a waitress named Britt. He boldly gave her a kiss, too.

We should point out that the alcohol was flowing during the mixer, and it certainly had its effect on Tara. Tara was noticeably drunk during the rose ceremony, stumbling, stomping her feet and blowing on her hands for some reason. At one point Chris stepped out of the room and told host Chris Harrison that he had planned to award Tara a rose, but the fact that she was wasted concerned him.In the end, Chris decided to give Tara another chance. He also kept Ashley S. around, too, but he dismissed Reegan, Nicole and six others. Twenty-two women in all remain in the competition, pending the outcome of Kimberly's impromptu chit-chat with Chris. The new Bachelor season launched with a one-hour red carpet event that featured appearances by former Bachelor couple Sean Lowe and Catherine Giudici, Bachelorette couple Andi Dorfman and Josh Murray, and Nikki Ferrell, who was chosen by Juan Pablo Galavis on the 2014 season of The Bachelor but has since split from him. Nikki explained that she and Juan Pablo broke up because their lifestyles were too different.A new episode of The Bachelor will air next Monday night on ABC.

Why Wedding Planning Isn’t Benedict Cumberbatch’s Top Priority Right Now

Why Wedding Planning Isn’t Benedict Cumberbatch’s Top Priority Right Now

ABC/Rick Rowell(NEW YORK) -- Benedict Cumberbatch doesn't want to mix business and pleasure.

The Sherlock actor, who announced his engagement last month to Sophie Hunter by placing an eight-line notice in the births, deaths and marriages column of The Times newspaper of London, said right now he's focused on work. His focus on his wedding will come later, he said.

"One thing at a time," he told Popsugar at the Palm Springs International Film Festival on Saturday. "I'm playing Sherlock now -- just about to start -- so my main focus is going to be on that."

Cumberbatch, 38, is not only known for his role in Sherlock, but also August: Osage County and 12 Years a Slave. The British actor also stars in the recently-released The Imitation Game, with Keira Knightley.

He and Hunter have been together since 2009, when they appeared in the film Burlesque Fairytales.

Seems like Cumberbatch believes if you are going to do something, best to do it right, and it appears he's in no rush to tie the knot, especially if he's focused on work.

A request for comment from his rep was not immediately returned to ABC News.

Why Anna Kendrick Isn’t Looking for Prince Charming

Why Anna Kendrick Isn’t Looking for Prince Charming

ABC/Fred Lee(NEW YORK) -- In Into the Woods, Anna Kendrick plays a Cinderella for modern times.

"The idea that Cinderella gets cheated on by her prince is the most twisted and genius concept," the 29-year-old actress told the February issue of Fashion magazine about her character in the Disney adaptation of the Broadway hit.

Like her character, Kendrick is wise to any potential Prince Charmings and their ways.

"I've never really gone for the razzle-dazzle types, no quarterbacks, no flashy guys and no Prince Charmings. Chris Pine’s version of Prince Charming is so funny, and so on-point, and very much all style and no substance," she said of her Into the Woods co-star. "A [date] once picked me up in a Mustang and he was leaning on the hood of it. He was waiting for me and I was inside my apartment, looking out the window, thinking, 'Oh, this is going to go terribly.'"

She added, "The wrong kind of guy to fall in love with is the guy who will let go of the steering wheel as a joke. A guy who finds it amusing to make you uncomfortable, which is more common than you’d think, is someone you want to avoid."Kendrick also picked up some lessons from her parents' divorce."They taught me that staying together for the kids is the wrong approach. It perpetuates this warped idea of what a healthy relationship looks like," she said. These days, Kendrick is enjoying being single, which includes walking the red carpet solo."Recently I’ve decided that there’s no point in getting dressed up if I’m not having fun," she told Fashion. "I’ve looked at enough red carpets right now and realized that everyone might think that Taylor Schilling looked better than Lena Dunham at the Emmys...but I thought Lena rocked that red carpet more than anybody else. What the point in fashion if you’re not having a good time?"

Facts to Know About New “Bachelor” Chris Soules

Facts to Know About New “Bachelor” Chris Soules

ABC/Rick Rowell(NEW YORK) -- Chris Soules is the new star of The Bachelor, and during his time on the show viewers will get to know him much better. However, before the show's premiere Monday night at 8 p.m., the reality TV star gave ABC News a few fun facts about himself. Here they are, in his own words:1. "I love animals, and maybe my all-time favorite was my childhood dog, Dutch. He was part German shepherd, all mutt. I loved him so much I built a campground for the two of us and named it 'Chris and Dutch's Campground.' RIP, Dutch. I miss you, buddy."2. "I lost my front tooth playing basketball with my friend Jake. We were at my grandfather's place doing our best Michael Jordan impressions on a lowered rim when I got too crazy with the whole tongue-hanging-out thing. I caught my tooth on the net. I just remember hearing it 'ting' on the cement floor. My mom called the dentist, who told me to keep it in milk. Later that night he jammed it back in my mouth. Ouch. But man was that a sweet jam!"3. "When I was a kid, my sisters used to make me play Barbie dolls with them. I named my first Barbie Shaulin. Why? Who knows? But I know it helped me get in touch with my feminine side!"4. "I'd really love to get certified in scuba diving someday. Unfortunately, it's not the easiest thing to do in northeast Iowa!"5. "My favorite thing to eat near my house in Iowa is the taco pizza at Rod and Cal's. Yes, taco pizza! You have to order it with extra sour cream and salsa. If they're closed, it's all about the Gunder burger at The Shanty. It's enormous! And delicious!"
