Read Taylor Swift’s Message to Fan Being Bullied

Read Taylor Swift’s Message to Fan Being Bullied

ABC/ Lorenzo Bevilaqua(NEW YORK) — As if her songs aren’t inspiring enough for fans, Taylor Swift recently took the time out of her jam-packed schedule to send a long, heartfelt Instagram message to one individual being bullied.

“It’s okay to wonder how you could try so hard and still get stomped all over,” the Grammy-winning star, 24, wrote in her message, which was shared by fans on Twitter. “Just don’t let them change you or stop you from singing or dancing around to your favorite song.”

The singer, who has admitted that she was once bullied in junior high school because of her love for country music, spoke from experience to the teen she called “Hannahhhh.”

“I know why you’re crying because I’ve been in your place,” Swift wrote. “This isn’t a high school thing or an age thing. It’s a people thing. A life thing. It doesn’t stop. It doesn’t end or change. People cut other people down for entertainment, amusement, out of jealousy, because of something broken inside them. Or for no reason at all.”

Swift’s advice could have been straight out of her new No. 1 single, “Shake It Off.” In other words, the “haters gonna hate” but you can’t “stop moving.” You’ve got to “shake it off.”

Read Swift’s entire message below:

Reading this made me so sad because I love seeing you in your videos and photos being so happy and wide eyed, like the world isn’t as harsh and unfair as it actually is. I hate thinking about your pretty face covered in tears, but I know why you’re crying because I’ve been in your place. This isn’t a high school thing or an age thing. It’s a people thing. A life thing. It doesn’t stop. It doesn’t end or change.

People cut other people down for entertainment, amusement, out of jealousy, because of something broken inside them. Or for no reason at all. It’s just what they do, and you’re a target because you live your life loudly and boldly. You’re bright and joyful and so many people are cynical. They won’t understand you and they won’t understand me.

But the only way they win is if your tears turn to stone and make you bitter like them. It’s okay to ask why. It’s okay to wonder how you could try so hard and still get stomped all over. Just don’t let them change you or stop you from singing or dancing around to your favorite song.

You’re going into high school this week and this is your chance to push the reset button on how much value you give the opinion of these kids, most of whom have NO idea who they are. I’m so proud of you and protective of you because you DO. If they don’t like you for being yourself, be yourself even more.

Every time someone picks on me, I’ll think of you in the hopes that every time someone picks on you, you’ll think of me… and how we have this thread that connects us. Let them keep living in the darkness and we’ll keep walking in the sunlight.

Forever on your side, Taylor.

Other reactions via statements include:

Rivers’ personal friend, Barbara Walters: “No one loved life, laughter, and a good time more than Joan. We would have dinner and laugh and gossip and I always left the table smiling.   She was a brassy, often outrageous and hilarious performer who made millions laugh.  In private, she was the picture of elegance and class. I will miss her.”

Amy Poehler: “What a full life. Every woman in comedy is indebted to her. She was there at the beginning and funny to the end. RIP Joan”

Louis CK: “I feel very lucky that I knew Joan Rivers and I feel very sad that she’s gone. She was a great comedian and a wonderful person. I never saw someone attack a stage with so much energy. She was a controlled lightning bolt. She was a prolific and unpredictable, joyful joke writer.  She loved comedy. She loved the audience. She was a great actress and should have done that more. She loved living and working. She was kind. She was real. She was brave. She was funny and you just wanted to be around her. I looked up to her. I learned from her. I loved her. I liked her. And I already miss her very much. It really f***ing sucks that she had to die all of a sudden.”

Amy Schumer: “Joan was hilarious and relevant all the way to the end.  She inspired every comic I know and we will carry her with us and quote her jokes forever. When I met her at the premiere of her movie, A Piece of Work she was so kind and wanted to make sure all the comics were going to stay so we could all hang out together. I thought that was so cool. Such a pro, such a hard worker. This was a huge loss for us all.”

WE tv, the network that aired her reality show Joan and Melissa: “Joan Rivers was truly one of a kind — a trailblazer, an icon and, above all else, a gracious, thoughtful and candidly funny woman who loved her family, friends and fans dearly across a legendary career that spanned five decades. We were fortunate and honored to have her on WE tv and to allow our viewers to share her life, humor and indefatigable spirit. We send our deepest condolences to her daughter Melissa, grandson Cooper and all her family, friends and fans.”

Joan Rivers, Comic Legend and TV Personality, Dead at Age 81

Joan Rivers, Comic Legend and TV Personality, Dead at Age 81

Larry Busacca/Getty Images for Tribeca Film Festival(NEW YORK) — Joan Rivers, a comic legend known for her trademark snarky humor and long, wide-ranging career, has died at age 81.

Rivers was undergoing throat surgery last week in New York City when she suffered cardiac arrest and was rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital.  Her daughter Melissa Rivers confirmed Tuesday that her mother was on life support.

On Thursday afternoon, Melissa Rivers issued a statement saying, “It is with great sadness that I announce the death of my mother, Joan Rivers. She passed peacefully at 1:17pm surrounded by family and close friends. My son and I would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of Mount Sinai Hospital for the amazing care they provided for my mother.”

Rivers added, “My mother’s greatest joy in life was to make people laugh. Although that is difficult to do right now, I know her final wish would be that we return to laughing soon.”

The funeral is scheduled for Sunday at Temple Emanu-El in Manhattan.

One of Joan Rivers’ employers, E!, issued a statement saying, “For decades Joan has made people laugh, shattered glass ceilings and revolutionized comedy.  She was unapologetic and fiercely dedicated to entertaining all of us and has left an indelible mark on the people that worked with her and on her legions of fans.  She’s been a much beloved member of the E! family for over 20 years and the world is less funny without her in it.  Today our hearts are heavy knowing Joan will not be bounding through the doors.”

Rivers was born Joan Alexandra Molinsky June 8, 1933 in Brooklyn, N.Y.  After graduating from college with a BA in English literature and anthropology, she worked a handful of different jobs before turning her attention full-time to show business.  It was her agent at the time who suggested she change her last name professionally.  She took his, and became Joan Rivers.

Rivers was already a successful stand-up comic in New York City when she began making TV appearances in the early 1960s, beginning as a guest on The Tonight Show, first when hosted by Jack Parr and then, Johnny Carson.  She quickly became a familiar television presence, appearing on comedy and variety shows, including The Ed Sullivan Show, and also released her first comedy albums.

Rivers briefly had her own daytime talk show in the late 1960s, on which Johnny Carson was her first guest.  Carson served in large part as a mentor for her for decades, showcasing her often on his show, and ultimately having her serve as frequent Tonight Show guest host.  Their friendship abruptly and very publicly ended when Rivers accepted an offer in 1986 to host a rival late-night talk show on Fox, The Late Show Starring Joan Rivers, and reportedly didn’t tell Carson ahead of time.

Feeling betrayed, Carson never again spoke to her, and instituted a Tonight Show ban that ended only when Jimmy Fallon featured her on his first broadcast as host, in February of 2014.  Ironically, Rivers’ late-night talk show lasted only a year before she was fired.  She later went on to host her own Emmy-winning daytime talk show, The Joan Rivers Show, from 1989-1993.

Rivers continued to perform stand up and was a near constant television presence until her death.  In 1994, she and her daughter, Melissa, began providing red carpet coverage and commentary for E! Entertainment Television, and became known for catty, often hilarious comments about celebrity awards show fashion.  In 2010, that trademark snark was showcased in the E! show, Fashion Police.  She was as popular in the U.K. as she was in America, appearing frequently on game and chat shows there, and receiving an invitation to the April 2005 wedding of Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles.

Though never shy about offering her opinions on current events and pop culture, Rivers received increasing criticism in recent years for remarks, often about tragic news events, that many judged to be harsh or insensitive.  She sometimes explained herself, but seldom apologized.

Rivers was married twice; once for less than a year in 1955, and then to Edgar Rosenberg, from 1965 until his death in 1987.  Melissa is her only child.

Rosie Perez and Nicolle Wallace Joining “The View”

Rosie Perez and Nicolle Wallace Joining “The View”

ABC/Ida Mae Astute(NEW YORK) — The new co-host lineup for ABC’s The View is now complete.

ABC announced Thursday that actress Rosie Perez and author and political analyst Nicolle Wallace will be joining Whoopi Goldberg and Rosie O’Donnell as co-hosts for the new season of The View.

“I am beyond thrilled, honored and completely surprised that I’ve been asked to join The View,” said Perez in a statement. “Knowing that I’ll be in the company of Whoopi, Rosie and Nicolle, three very smart and engaging women that I have an immense amount of respect for, makes it even more unbelievable. The opportunity to connect with our nation’s audience on a daily basis…icing on the cake! Very happy.”

Wallace said in a statement that she is “honored to join the tradition of compelling conversations that has been the signature of The View for the better part of two decades.”

“I have watched The View for many years and now to be seated alongside three women that I have admired is both humbling and incredibly exciting,” Wallace added.

Wallace served as communications chief for George W. Bush’s White House and re-election campaign and senior advisor for the McCain-Palin campaign in 2008.

“These are powerful and accomplished women from different walks of life who have had amazing personal and professional experiences. Each brings incredible perspective and information to the table,”said Bill Wolff, executive producer. “This mix of smart, vibrant and energetic women is unlike anything else on daytime television.”

Whoopi Goldberg is the only current host returning for season 18 following the retirement of Barbara Walters and the departure of Jenny McCarthy and Sherri Shepherd.

The View announced in July that Rosie O’Donnell will return to the show, after leaving in 2007.

The daytime talk show announced earlier this month that it has moved to a new studio, which will now be in the round. The new set will allow the hosts to interact more with audience members as well as with viewers at social media stations.

The new season of The View premieres live on Monday, September 15.

Jessica Simpson Reflects On Marriage and Motherhood

Jessica Simpson Reflects On Marriage and Motherhood

Kevork Djansezian/Getty Images(LOS ANGELES) — In the past two years, Jessica Simpson has gotten married and welcomed two children.

To say those experiences have shaped her would be an understatement, but they have also contributed to a greater sense of self-acceptance.

“Today, I feel truly comfortable in my own skin. Better exercise habits, food choices, and lifestyle changes have contributed to this, but ultimately, my confidence comes from my state of mind,” she wrote in an essay for Glamour magazine. “Every step I’ve taken up until this point has taught me something. Every decision I’ve made has brought me here. When I reflect on my life, my beliefs, and my experiences, I gain a perspective that connects me more deeply to myself, my friends, and my family.”

Simpson credits her husband, former NFL player Eric Johnson, with helping her achieve a sense of self-confidence. After she gave birth to their daughter Maxwell in 2012, she discovered a few months later that she was pregnant with their son, Ace, now one. Johnson’s “unconditional love has been a reminder of the love I should give myself,” she wrote.

“Eric has seen me at every size, and he loves me no matter what,” she wrote. “When I got pregnant… I was nervous about starting over again. I had come so far in learning how to balance my career, family life, and hormones, and starting over again felt overwhelming. Eric was so supportive and challenged me to accept my insecurities and focus on what truly matters.”

However, maturity has also contributed to her sense of confidence. Now 34, Simpson feels more self-aware than ever before.

“When I was younger and starting out in the music business, I always felt like I was being defined by other people—industry executives, fans, the media, and so on. It took a while, but now that I’m in my 30s, I’ve grown into myself and established my identity on my terms,” she wrote. “I embrace my strengths and celebrate even the small victories. I’m certainly not perfect, but when I look in the mirror, I’m proud of the woman I see.”

While her close relationships with friends and relatives have helped her through the ups and downs of her life, the Weight Watchers spokeswoman said these days, she’s learning to carve out time for herself too.

“That’s what building my business has been about for me,” she explained. “I sometimes second-guess spending time working—I want to be with my kids as much as possible! Then I remember how satisfying work is for me, and because I am fulfilled, I can offer the best version of myself to my family.”

Exclusive: Donnie Wahlberg Talks Love of Photography, ‘Exciting’ Wedding to Jenny McCarthy

Exclusive: Donnie Wahlberg Talks Love of Photography, ‘Exciting’ Wedding to Jenny McCarthy

Charles Sykes/Bravo(NEW YORK) — Donnie Wahlberg admits he’s still recovering from his wedding this past weekend with new wife Jenny McCarthy.

But the Blue Bloods star, 45, doesn’t have too much time to relax. He’s got important pictures to take.

“It [was] very fun, very exciting, still recovering,” he told ABC News, laughing about his wedding in Chicago on Sunday. “All of it, it was just really great.”

Wahlberg spoke to ABC News as part of a collaboration with Canon that will help further a passion he’s had for years.

“I haven’t really been a taker of photography,” he said of his collaboration for the Canon PIXMA PRO City Senses interactive gallery. “[But] I grew up in the business working with a lot of legendary rock ‘n’ roll photographers. I’ve always loved looking at photography. I’m sort of obsessed with the classic photos….I have a strong interest in this art form.”

Wahlberg will take pictures of and inspired by his native Boston over the next few weeks and then host a gallery opening featuring his work on Sept. 17. The City Senses tour will take place in three cities — Boston, Austin and Seattle — with all the pictures printed on PIXMA PRO printers from Canon.

The veteran actor, who says he’s now “becoming a student of the lens” by taking photos and directing episodes of his hit show, also added that this medium is something that can help him bond with his children.

“My younger son [Elijah, 13,] is very interested in art and photography already. He can help me and it’s something we can do together,” he said. “As I’ve gotten older, I’ve sort of slowed down and am more interested in capturing moments myself.”

A few moments Wahlberg said he’ll never forget from his wedding include McCarthy’s son Evan, 12, playing a key role in the ceremony, walking his mother, 41, down the aisle, and his own son getting involved in the joyous occasion.

“I think seeing Jenny come down the aisle with her son and hearing my son’s toast were probably two of the highlights for sure,” he said.

Connie Britton Shares What Being a Single Mom Is Like

Connie Britton Shares What Being a Single Mom Is Like

ABC/Mark Levine(NEW YORK) — Connie Britton is not only the star of ABC’s Nashville, she’s also a single mother to a 3-year-old son, Yoby. Britton said although being a single mom comes with certain stresses, it doesn’t make sense to rush into a marriage for the sake of her son.

“I would love to be doing this with a partner, and I want Yoby to have a father figure. But I also know that putting that kind of pressure on myself or on a relationship would be disastrous,” she explains in the October issue of Redbook. “It’s funny — my married friends tell me all the time, ‘What you have is so much easier.’ When you’re doing it on your own, you don’t have to [argue over] how you’re raising the kids.”

Britton stars opposite Girls‘ Adam Driver in This Is Where I Leave You, where she plays a therapist in love with a younger man. The actress said people should forget assumptions made about those in relationships with others of a different age.

“There’s a lot of ‘cougar’ talk, and a level or indignity to the way people talk about it,” she said. “Here’s the deal: I think that age can disappear. I know women in their 40s who don’t feel like, quote unquote, women in their 40s. I hate generalizations. There’s also this idea of the older woman — or even just a strong woman — using men up and spitting them out. That’s not my experience at all. I get my heart broken. A big part of intimacy is vulnerability, but if you make yourself vulnerable, you’re going to get your heart broken.”

This Is Where I Leave You, which also stars Jane Fonda and Tina Fey, hits theaters September 19.

Rosario Dawson Reveals She Went to Her Prom Alone

Rosario Dawson Reveals She Went to Her Prom Alone

ABC/Randy Holmes(NEW YORK) — Looking at Rosario Dawson now, one wouldn’t imagine that she went to her high school prom alone. Still, the actress recently revealed she did.

“I was an awkward teenager. I went stag to my prom. I was a virgin until I was 20 years old!” the Sin City 2 star said in the latest issue of Cosmopolitan for Latinas. “My mother was raising five kids on her own, I wasn’t just going to sit back and be a horny teenager and continue some cycle of teenage pregnancy — I wanted more opportunities.”

Thankfully Dawson has shaken off her awkward stage and is happily dating. But what does she look for in a partner?

“I’m a touch person, I love intimacy…I love men! I love romance,” she detailed. “I would love to fall deeply in love with someone, but at the same time it’s not my everything.”

Dawson also loves thoughtful men. “For me, it’s about forethought,” the actress said. “For my 25th birthday, my then-boyfriend prepared a beautiful bath for me. He put flowers and a bunch of little candles everywhere. He was crazy busy, and he knew I loved a great bath! I remember it was so small but it was so special to me because he thought it through.”

Douglas Gorenstein/NBC(NEW YORK) — Hercules star Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is tired of playing the hero.

The action star is going to play villain Black Adam in the upcoming Warner Bros. superhero film, Shazam.

Nick Cannon Opens Up About Marriage, Addresses Rumors on Twitter

ABC/ Jeff Neira(NEW YORK) — On Wednesday, Nick Cannon addressed rumors about his marriage with singer Mariah Carey, opening up on Twitter about “slander” and “gossip” surrounding talks of an impending split.

“Because my family & I haven’t been forthcoming with personal information, people are quick to paint negative pictures and spread rumours,” Cannon said in a tweet.

“For the record I NEVER have, nor will I make a statement regarding my marriage,” he added.

“So whatever your favorite gossip outlet is reporting has been created within their own imagination…At this difficult time I would ask all civilized people to please respect my family and this process…”

The pair married in 2008 and welcomed fraternal twins in 2011.

Miley Cyrus Blamed for Cancellation of Vermont High School Dance

Miley Cyrus Blamed for Cancellation of Vermont High School Dance

Dana Edelson/NBC(BENNINGTON, Vt.) — It’s just like a real-life version of Footloose: the principal of a high school in Vermont has cancelled the homecoming dance — and according to her, it’s all Miley Cyrus’ fault.

In a letter to the editor of the local Vermont paper The Bennington Banner, Sue Maguire, the principal of Mount Anthony Union High School, writes, “Over the past couple of years, since Miley Cyrus took the stage ‘twerking’ at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards, our students’ dancing behavior has crossed the line of what we can condone as appropriate behavior at a school.”

“Twerking is dancing to popular music in a sexually provocative manner involving a low squatting stance and thrusting movements. Students do not face one another or remain with the same person for the length of the song.  If you haven’t seen twerking, I would encourage you to research this online,” Maguire continues.

Read the rest of the principal’s letter:

“As a school we are responsible to keep students safe and teach them how to interact with others appropriately. One of the issues that emerges with this highly sexualized form of dancing is consent….we were told by students that…no one asks permission before ‘grinding,’ nor do they ask the other person if they want to dance.

We plan on continuing the dialogue in hopes that we can work together to reinstate dances. Unfortunately, our young people are continuously exposed to a culture filled with sexualized images and messages, but this should not and cannot be permitted at our school.”

Joan Rivers ‘Moved Out of Intensive Care,’ Says Daughter

Joan Rivers ‘Moved Out of Intensive Care,’ Says Daughter

Charles Sykes/Bravo(NEW YORK) — Joan Rivers has been moved out of intensive care at the New York hospital where she has been since late last week, her daughter Melissa Rivers said Wednesday.

“My mother has been moved out of intensive care and into a private room where she is being kept comfortable,” Melissa Rivers said Wednesday in a statement to ABC News. “Thank you for your continued support.”

The comedic legend, 81, arrived at Mount Sinai Hospital last Thursday after an emergency call that she was in cardiac arrest. Rivers has been unconscious and sedated under close observation ever since.

On Tuesday, Melissa Rivers stated that her mother would “remain on life support.”

Apple Denies Breach of Their Systems Led to Celebrity Photo Leak

Apple Denies Breach of Their Systems Led to Celebrity Photo Leak

bedo/iStock Editorial/Thinkstock(NEW YORK) — Apple says that there is no evidence that their systems were breached prior to the recent hack that led to the leaking of naked photographs of several celebrities.

In an updated posted to their website, Apple said that “after more than 40 hours of investigation, we have discovered that certain celebrity accounts were compromised by a very targeted attack on user names, passwords and security questions.” The company says similar attacks have “become all too common on the Internet,” but that none of the cases that they have looked into involved a breach of Apple’s iCloud or Find my iPhone systems.

The FBI continues to investigate the hack.

A spokesperson for Jennifer Lawrence told ABC News that the leak “is a flagrant violation of privacy” and that they will seek prosecution against “anyone who posts the stolen photos.” An attorney for Kate Upton echoed those sentiments.

Some celebrities have claimed instead that the photos purported to be of them are fake, including singer Ariana Grande and singer and actress Victoria Justice.

“Saved by the Bell” Cast Members React to Lifetime’s “Unauthorized Saved by the Bell Story”

“Saved by the Bell” Cast Members React to Lifetime’s “Unauthorized Saved by the Bell Story”

Photo by Fotos International/Getty Images(NEW YORK) — If you watched Lifetime’s The Unauthorized Saved by the Bell Story, which aimed to show what really went on behind-the-scenes of one of TV’s most popular sitcoms, and you thought it was fact — think again. The story, told mostly through former cast member Dustin Diamond’s eyes, is getting some push back from some of his former co-stars.

Diamond, who played Screech on the once popular TV series, also produced the film. In recent years, his former co-stars have distanced themselves from him.

Lark Voorhies, who played fashionista Lisa Turtle in Saved by the Bell, tweeted early Tuesday morning, “I did not watch, and will not watch.”

Mario Lopez, who played jock A.C. Slater, tweeted his own thoughts saying: “Sept 30th you’ll get an accurate idea of SBTB #JustBetweenUs.” He accompanied the post with a photo of the book cover for his forthcoming memoir, Just Between Us. The book will reportedly feature stories never before shared of Lopez’s time on the Saved by the Bell set.

The other castmembers from the show, which was centered on a fictional high school, have yet to speak out about the TV film.

Saved by the Bell aired from 1989 to 1993.
