Tiger Excited to Return to Golf

Tiger Excited to Return to Golf

Jason Merritt/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- Tiger Woods, winner of 14 Majors, says he is excited and ready to return to competitive play in 2015.

"I feel great," Woods said Monday during an appearance on SiriusXM PGA Tour Radio. "I feel really, really good. It's great to be back out here competing again. I've missed it quite a bit."

Woods has been recovering from back injuries that kept him off the course since August. He played just eight times in 2014, missing both the Masters and U.S. Open due to surgery, before completely shutting it down after he missed the cut at the PGA Championship.

The 38-year-old announced two weeks ago that Chris Como has been working with him on his swing as he prepares for the Hero World Challenge this week.

"I can finally log in the time, log in the minutes, and really delve into a good practice session and really get a lot out of it," he said. "And that's something that I hadn't been able to do in quite some time."

Woods has not won a Major tournament since the 2008 U.S. Open. The Hero World Challenge is an 18-man field of top-50 players that helps raise funds for the Tiger Woods Foundation.

Greg Norman Injured in Chainsaw Incident

ThinkStock(NEW YORK) -- Professional golfer Greg Norman was rushed to the hospital on Saturday after being injured by a chainsaw. The news came via a post to his Instagram account that showed the 59-year-old in a hospital bed.

"Working with a chainsaw ALWAYS be respectful of the unexpected," the post said, accompanying the photo. "I was one lucky man today. Damaged, but not down & out. Still have left hand."

Norman has previously posted pictures of him using a chainsaw to trim trees on his property. According to the Sydney Morning Herald, the Australian native is recovering in a U.S. hospital.

Affectionately called "the Shark", Norman owns 20 PGA Tour victories, including a pair of majors.

Brian Harman Wins John Deere Classic

Brian Harman Wins John Deere Classic

(SILVIS, Ill.) -- For the first time in his young career, Brian Harman played in the final pairing on Sunday. The 27-year-old handled that pressure, making three clutch birdies down the stretch to win the John Deere Classic by one stroke over Zach Johnson.

"It was very hard, probably one of the hardest things I've ever tried to do in my life," Harman said. "Just trying not to let your mind run wild is the hardest part out there."

Johnson, a neighbor of Harman, shot a 7-under 64, tying the leader on the 14th hole with a birdie. When Harman approached the 14th, he was able to make par before knocking home birdie putts on each of the next two holes to pull away.

A bogey on 18 didn't hurt the first-time PGA winner, who held a two-stroke lead as he stood on the final tee. The victory earns Harman the final exemption for the British Open and also gave him an invitation to the Masters and Tournament of Champions, both firsts.

Jhonattan Vegas finished tied for third with Jerry Kelly while Scott Brown and Tim Clark tied for fifth.

Rose Wins Quicken Loans National

Rose Wins Quicken Loans National

Patrick McDermott/Getty Images(BETHESDA, Md.) -- Justin Rose hit a ball into the pond on the 18th fairway but made bogey to force a playoff in the final round of the Quicken Loans National on Sunday. Rose then made par on the first playoff hole to beat Shawn Stefani at Congressional National Golf Course for his first win of the season.

Stefani, who narrowly missed a birdie putt on 18 to win, duplicated Rose's mistake and ended up in the same pond on the extra hole. That opened the door for Rose, who earned his first PGA Tour win since taking the 2013 U.S. Open at Merion.

The Englishman shot a 1-under 70 to finish with a tournament score of 4-under. Stefani posted the same score in the final round in his quest for his first PGA Tour victory.

"I felt like all aspects of my game were tested this week, and it's really nice to win in that fashion," Rose said.

Tiger Shoots 3-Over in Return to Golf

Tiger Shoots 3-Over in Return to Golf

Rob Carr/Getty Images(BETHESDA, Md.) -- For the first time in three months, Tiger Woods was back on the golf course. Woods shot a 3-over 74 in the opening round of the Quicken Loans National at Congressional Country Club on Thursday.

"I was trying to get the numbers and the feel," said Woods. "That didn't start happening until midway through my front nine."

Woods had seven bogeys through his first 12 holes but closed with three birdies in his final six. It was the competitive round for the 14-time champion since having surgery on his back in March. Woods' last PGA Tour event was the World Golf Championships-Cadillac Championship at Doral. He finished in 25th place with a 5-over performance.

The first round 74 is the highest score for Woods at the tournament. Only once has he gone on to win an event after shooting so high, the 2005 Masters when he opened with a 74. Greg Chalmers leads the field after a first round 66, one-shot better than Ricky Barnes and Freddie Jacobson.

Matsuyama Wins Memorial In a Playoff

Matsuyama Wins Memorial In a Playoff

Sam Greenwood/Getty Images(DUBLIN, Ohio) -- Bubba Watson failed to hold his 54-hole lead at the Memorial, opening the door for a number of other players. Hideki Matsuyama was able to force a playoff with Kevin Na before winning his first tournament in America on the first extra hole.

It was not easy for Matsuyama, as he double-bogeyed on the 16th hole and bogeyed on the 17th, falling one stroke behind Na, who was already in the clubhouse. On his final tee shot of regulation, Matsuyama's drive bounced off a tree and into the fairway. The 22-year old took advantage of the break and hit a 7-iron to within five feet of the pin. His birdie putt put him at 13-under for the tournament and forced a playoff that he would win with a par on the first hole.

"To win my first PGA Tour event is enough," Matsuyama said. "But to win it here at (Jack) Nicklaus' course, it really gives me a lot of confidence now going on. And hopefully, I'll be able to use this week as a stepping stone to further my career."

Matsuyama became just the fourth Japanese-born player to win on the PGA Tour. His victory was aided by the collapse of multiple major winners. Watson, the Masters champion, led by one stroke with five holes to play but shot 3 over down the stretch. Adam Scott was 4 over on his final seven holes after being tied for the lead.
