Vladek/iStock/Thinkstock(TALLAHASSEE, Fla.) — A federal judge issued a clarification on an earlier-issued injunction on Thursday, allowing same-sex marriage to go ahead in Florida.
According to Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi, the court’s explanation said that it would not require clerks of court to issue same-sex marriage licenses for couples other than the plaintiffs in an ongoing case against the state. However, it gives the clerks the option to “follow the ruling, even for marriage-license applicants who are not parties to this case.”
Bondi says that her office “has sought to minimize confusion and uncertainty,” adding that “we are glad the Court has provided additional guidance.” She further said that her office would not attempt to block clerks from deciding how to proceed following the court’s decision.
